What was the last TV show you watched?

Maigret Sets a Trap, it looks like from 2016 but IMDB says 2019 US broadcast debut. Via Britbox. Set in 1955 Paris, with Rowan Atkinson as Inspector Maigret. A bit on the slower-paced side, but with twists and turns. The Missus liked the mystery and the fashions, I liked the nifty lids and the procedural unraveling of the mystery.

Still watching BritBox series from 2006 or so..."The Street", this is brilliant TV. So well written with a cavalcade of worthy Brit actors. Bob Hoskins last night.

Each episode in a vignette centred on a resident of a Manchester street of row houses. Highly recommended.

At the rate at which I get around to watching shows that I want to watch it is a certainty that I will need more than 30 days. Quite often, I would rather read than watch a show.

We wind down the day with an hour or two of TV each evening. I do my reading during the day. By the time the evening rolls around my eyes are too tired to read....as is the rest of me as well. Time to turn it off and vegetate.

Was that written by Jimmy McGovern? I remember hearing of it at the time. BB has a lot of good content on there, and not only the obvious BBC stuff. ITV has long been viewed as the "poor relation", but now and then they do do some fantastically high-standard drama productions. MrsBiggs and Des (about the Dennis Nielson case) have been especially strong of what I've seen.

That is how we do it here as well. But like last night, we were not in the mood for anything wherein we were required to use our brain. That happens more often than we would like, but at some point we will get around to making our way through Britbox.

Yes, mostly McGovern with a few episodes co written with another. Finished it last night and so sorry it is done. Absolutely brilliant TV drama. 59 minutes of drama, pathos and humour. I liken it to the brilliance of a short story as the genre requires a different skill set than the unlimited scope allowed by a full novel.

"Zoo" - Currently bingeing this one on Netlfix. Never even heard of this one before finally taking a chance. Good premise but already halfway though the first season you can see the production values slipping and CGI getting sloppy. Don't know if Puddin' and I will finish it up but right now we're interested.

Going back through the blu-rays, and just now finished season 1 of Game of Thrones. Recenrly finished watching the first four series of Shetland. Netflix Canada is limited to the first four, still waiting for five.

Watched 12 of the 13 episodes of Kevin Brownlow's BBC documentary Hollywood, over several days, courtesy the you tube. The episode I could not find was the one on studio owners.
I watched it on PBS years ago and have only picked up one or two shows here and there. Well-done story of the American film industry from its roots to the end of the silent film era. As a movie buff it was great to see silent film stars and camera men reminisce, and to listen to the mellifluous tone of James Mason give trivia and behind the scenes tidbits.

Before we left for camping, we saw the first two episodes from the most recent, and last, season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

The second episode was hilarious.

The Beast Must Die. AMC. I can't say anything good about this show. I can't believe it is getting a second season. It's too bad this is the first thing I've seen with Jared Harris since Mad Men.

Episodes 1 & 2 of Marvel's "What If" - I read some of the books in the 70's and 80's but was never a steady reader. I enjoyed the first episode right enough (any chance to see "The Howling Commandos" is reason enough for me) but it was mere a swap (so far) of Peggy Carter for Steve Rogers as Captain America/Captain Carter. The second episode really twists the old narrative with T'Challa replacing Peter Quill as "Star Lord" in the "Guardians of the Galaxy". This leads to some REAL changes in the accepted canon of the Marvel Universe. This episode was fun, witty but ultimately sad as it's contains one of the last times we'll ever hear Chadwick Boseman's voice on film. Nice cameo though of "Howard the Duck". What a hoot.

A dark world, but a well-done period piece with a last moment revelation of vital clues that explain everything. There's a Maigret series with Michael Gambon that we will check out next.

Georges Simenon is one of my favorite authors. I look forward to watching Maigret on Britbox. My worry is that it will in no way live up to my expectations. I know there is no way it will be as good as what I feel when reading a Maigret story but nonetheless I look forward to it.
