She does echo Bergman's looks, but with less of a "woman on a pedestal" and more of a "girl in the back seat" vibe. Bergman never felt very approachable, IMHO.

I think so. I read her autobiography by Birgit Haustedt from 2015. It seems, that she was just a strong, emancipated woman. Natural beauty with and because her manly features. An elegant lady, with a strong boy inside.

Unbroken!

Great movie, but it could have been SO much better. The most amazing part of Louie's entire story is that he forgave his captors, especially the one Japanese soldier who tormented him incessantly, i.e. The Bird. Yet they only told this story with a quote at the end of the movie. It made me sad because Louie was all about forgiveness, but that only earned a footnote in the movie.

First one I watched was Edge of Darkness. Loved it. Really, really good, about resistance in Norway.

First one I watched was Edge of Darkness. Loved it. Really, really good, about resistance in Norway.

Flynn, IMHO, is underrated as an actor because he's so handsome and is known for his swashbucklers that his true acting chops aren't fully appreciated, but he has them.

I agree with you on Flynn. He was a fantastic actor. I was really impressed with his performance in Edge of Darkness.

Next time it is on TCM, check Flynn out in "Never Say Goodbye," a decent (not great) comedy in which he really shines. The guy could do it all if given the chance. And, I agree, "Edge of Darkness" is a really good one.

(Hopefully the renascent mono will go away quickly - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.)

Watched Mad Max: Fury Road on the flight to Paris. It was awesome on a big screen tv, would've been amazing if I'd not been too busy to see it at the cinema, but still fun to watch on a six-inch screen on the back of a seat. And the kind where you cannot adjust the angle, when the person in front reclines!

"Mars Attacks" took its inspiration from a set of "trading cards" produced in the early 60's. I owned lots of these (never a full set till I was much older) cards as a kid. Well known for their blood, gore, veiled sexual innuendos that the Martians were really here to scarf our beauteous Earth Women, these cards warped the imagination of an entire generation (myself included). I like the Movie and thought it was hilarious... Nice to see Jim Brown back in action again as well!
