What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

No, not so much, was he, but then again, he was pretty much just 'there' and the whole thing probably would have went off just as well without him. I found it to be a rather strange film. The house design itself was more the star than anything I think, and it was so far in when the whole devil cult thing was sprung that it seemed like an afterthought. It did have some eerie moments, and I enjoyed it, but as a whole it just made me wonder what the folks were smoking back then.

If you like that sort of movie, I'd recommend Freaks, Vampyr, and, to a lesser degree, White Zombie (my favorite Lugosi movie) if you haven't seen them already. All three were released in 1932; must have been a good year for "smoke".

The Black Cat is a great film.

If you like that sort of movie, I'd recommend Freaks, Vampyr, and, to a lesser degree, White Zombie (my favorite Lugosi movie) if you haven't seen them already. All three were released in 1932; must have been a good year for "smoke".

"Freaks" is without a doubt one of the coolest movies I've ever seen.
I also enjoyed "White Zombie". I'll try to find the other.
"king of the Zombies" from '41 is one I enjoyed quite a bit, and one of, if not possibly, my all time favorites is "I Walked With a Zombie" (1943). I like the old voodoo zombies, pre-Romero.

Although.... "Night of the Living Dead" is a true masterpiece of horror, it just opened the door for a whole wave of crap zombie movies.

I'm very glad to see someone mention Vampyr. It's one of my favorite chilling/disturbing classic horror films.

I haven't watched I Walked With a Zombie in years (even though I have it on DVD), and I don't remember much about it. I might just have to set some time aside to watch it again. I like "Haitian voodoo" zombie movies as well, but haven't seen many of them.

I completely agree about Night of the Living Dead, and I even liked Tom Savini's 1990 remake, but I can't say I'm a fan of Romero's other "reanimated corpse" zombie movies...or many others, for that matter. Because of my username I've had a number of modern zombie movies recommended to me, and I've been disappointed by about 95% of them; after a while they all seem to be the same movie. I even stopped watching AMC's The Walking Dead when the second season ended. I wanted to like it, but realized I was forcing myself to watch it and enjoying it so little that I never even bothered to commit the character's names to memory. lol

I've only seen it once, but remember it having a definite "bad dream" quality to it; one of the most atmospheric movies I've ever seen.

"Iron Man 3" - B-Minus - Better than either one of Marvels other offerings last year ("The Wolverine" and "Thor 2"). I admit it had some twists that I didn't see coming. In the comics "The Mandarin" was Asian, and had "rings of power" kinda like "Fu Man Chu" but on steroids. I wondered how they were going to handle so blatant a stereotype in the film and they did well with it. Of course Robert Downey is the reason it was the top grossing film of last year (last time I checked anyway), he plays loveable, fast talking smartass better than anyone out there except mebbe Ben Cumberbatch in Holmes mode, but more on that later. I had a good time and can't wait to see Iron Man 4.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no Iron Man 4 in the pipeline. However, Downey and Paltrow are signed for two more Avengers films.

I liked IM3 a lot... until the inevitable CGI-fest finale, just like the first two. Yet more cartoon suits fighting... yawn. A solid B up until the last act.

I like Daniel Craig as Bond and would like to see him do at least one or two more, but I read a comment he made while promoting Skyfall that he felt he was already getting too old for the physical demands of the role. Time will tell, I suppose.

I don't get anything out of contemporary cinema - especially superhero movies or dull overly try-hard period dramas. As a result, I haven't been to the cinema for 10 years but I have seen parts of recent movies on DVD and found them for the most part tiresome. The last films I watched (on Saturday) were Orson Welles great opus, Touch of Evil and the extraordinary French movie, Delicatessen.

The entire series is good, some not as stellar as others though.
But the first film is a classic.
The drinking and the sarcasm, that's good entertainment.

I like Daniel Craig as Bond and would like to see him do at least one or two more, but I read a comment he made while promoting Skyfall that he felt he was already getting too old for the physical demands of the role. I honestly think it will be easier on the next fellow, since Craig was a lot younger and not really a star when he started playing 007. In other words, I think it will be easier for someone younger and relatively unknown to take over the role, and if writing and production are good, to do it successfully. But who knows?

Last night I watched "The New Centurions" with George C Scott and Stacy Keach. Good solid film, plausible well acted characters and a decent story. I suspect Keach's role will stick in my mind for a while, oddly. The only negatives are the title (which makes no sense historically, especially when they explain it) and the uprightness of the policemen depicted (they're all saints in the movie). On the plus side Keach does a great job of delivering a great line: "Oh, this is a sh*tty and degrading job" when being ordered by his vice department sergeant to entrap some gay dude. I think that's going to be my new personal slogan for 2014!
