I got mad when I saw Red Dawn and the Russians were attacking.
Maybe it was just the actors that made me mad.

It's necessary to generate fear and justify the state-within-a-state.

Last night I was treated (thanks to my local PBS station) to "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes", which, aside from a slow first 15 minutes and an over-long scene with Queen Victoria (Queen Victoria!) later in the movie, was excellent.

We got mad at that one up here in Canada as well, in the movie they say Canada was beaten in a week, the geography of that alone using ground troops would be impossible it's just too big.

In that case under 5 days! The movie was meant for the visceral effects so so of the logic was fuzzy at best. However it is still a good movie. Has anyone seen the mcDonalds scene they took out?

A bit language heavy but a wonderful film.
I believe the film was done in reverse order, to trim Pacino each little bit, so he'd come out clean cut (which of course is how it started out).

"The World's End" - B-Minus - I loved "Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz" was alright, but barely. "Paul" was marvelous, might buy that. So given the pedigree of the film I wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed the film a lot, it's really two movies in one. The first half being a buddy film where 5 guys try and relive one failed night of drink and debauch with varying degrees of success; the second half is alien, kung fu, sci fi action flick. The left turn is a little jarring but you don't go to this one seeking art, just fun... which I had. I'm sure I'd have caught more jokes if I were British but as it was I had a good time. Worth seeing if the current world is pushing you to the point you need a comedy!

"The World's End" - B-Minus - I loved "Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz" was alright, but barely. "Paul" was marvelous, might buy that. So given the pedigree of the film I wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed the film a lot, it's really two movies in one. The first half being a buddy film where 5 guys try and relive one failed night of drink and debauch with varying degrees of success; the second half is alien, kung fu, sci fi action flick. The left turn is a little jarring but you don't go to this one seeking art, just fun... which I had. I'm sure I'd have caught more jokes if I were British but as it was I had a good time. Worth seeing if the current world is pushing you to the point you need a comedy!

Considering, I had never even heard of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg a year ago, I am becoming a big fan of the two!

I still haven't seen that, unfortunately.

I watched "The Two Jakes" recently and it was a waste of time. The story was banal and took too long to be revealed. Virtually the entire cast, including Nicholson, were mis-cast (and yes, I realize Nicholson was reprising his character from "Chinatown" but he was still mis-cast in this movie). Half the cast delivered their lines in a mumble or drone. Nicholson looked drunk or stoned or loaded up on painkillers (or acted like it) for most of the film and Keitel did his usual 'acting' job of looking like he was in rehearsal, i.e. his character cries for a bit, then he looks like he's looking to the director to see if he's crying well, then he goes back to crying. When the house blew up at the end of the movie, I thought it's too bad the entire cast wasn't in the house. Uneven writing. The directing or photography was uneven and inconsistent too. The costumers seemed to have dressed everyone in early 90s clothes since even in the 50s nobody dressed like that. Grrrrrr... that's enough, since thinking back to this movie makes me hate it more and more.

My son and I saw this and really enjoyed it. We found it a fine conclusion to the "Cornetto Trilogy".

Kon-Tiki

Great movie about Thor Heyerdahl and the epic 1947 voyage from Peru to Polynesia. I can remember seeing the documentary as a kid in the theater. Wish I had seen this movie in a theater the scene with the whale shark is epic. I highly recommend this as it is a great old fashioned adventure movie based on fact. Makes one want to go do something epic!
