& that's all i got ta say 'bout that.

I actually liked that film. One of the best apocalyptic, end of world movies it doesn't follow the formula (2012, War of the Worlds, The Day the Earth Stood Still). The plucky but misunderstoond dad doesn't quite save the day. I watch it when I can.

TCM, TCM, TCM. Where would we all be without TCM?
I caught Bogey in "The Big Sleep" the other night, (very viable alternative to political speeches). But last night TCM had a festival of Mack Sennett Keystone silent comedies that was amazing. I can't even remember the names, but they were all from 1913 and 1914, and they featured Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, his wife Minta Durfee, Charles Chaplin (in his first films), the adorable Mabel Normand, and the rest of Sennett's little company. Crazy, zany, wonderful stuff. They just went out to the park and started shooting. 3 reels a week, cranked out like divinely inspired sausage.
I found a web page dedicated to Mabel, which includes a rambling but wonderful interview with Arbuckle's widow. She clearly adored her husband, and she clearly adored Mabel Normand.

TCM is going to be showing classic silent films every Thursday evening at 8PM, eastern time. If you're not familiar with or a fan of silent films, do yourself a favor. There is some wonderful (I've used that word a lot in this post) wonderful stuff to be seen.
