Strangely enough I found it to be one of Hitchcock's weaker movies from that era - it has everything it needs to be excellent - cast, location, cinematography, script, costumes, chemistry and romance but I always find it a bit lacking - I think it slows down towards the end, loses momentum and is maybe a little overlong. It's not like Rear Window, Vertigo or even the flawed and unappreciated Marnie - these I can watch time and time again and never tire of them.

Entirely agree you've put into written what I've found difficult to express about the film. Its all there on the surface, but it always comes up short for me. Even the lovely Grace Kelly, something about her character or her scary George Hamilton tan she has in the film just doesn't work for me. A far cry from how she is in Rear Window.

I didn't like Cary Grants skin tone in this one. It was just a little bit frightening and I found it distracting.

How depressing was this? Its in my cue, but I'm afraid to watch it :)

Are you an educator? If you think the entire US educational system is broken, and if you think the teachers' unions are almost entirely to blame, and if you think charter schools are the only solution, then the film will appeal to you. I didn't agree with the points presented...

Depressing? It can be if one thinks the perspective shown is absolute, not selective.

It's Complicated

Pretty darn funny, but the garden she has is amazing.

I have watched that movie at least four times now and I must admit it's partly (ok mostly) to do with her fabulous house/garden and lovely scenery in CA (reminds me of my honeymoon)! It's like the Italian part of Eat Pray Love - I watch that part any time it's on tv just for the lovely shots of Rome and the food and instantly switch off the second she's in the taxi in India!
