What war art do you have...?

JUST interested to see some of your 'war inspired' art, as there are many talented artists out there.
My contribution is "Rosie's Crew" by Gil Cohen, which captures the last minute brief before a B17 crew embarks on its mission out of England during WWII.

I can't manage to post pictures, but I've got two prints, the first is "Spitfire" by Barrie Clark which everone has most likely seen. My favorite is "Sliver Wings" by James Dietz. It is a still life of a collection of a B24 pilots memorbilla. In the painting is an old leather A2, sunglasses, crusher cap, medals, crew photos, a shot glass. Luckystrike cigarettes, zippo lighter, etc. Everthing is so life-like. The original is in the US AirForce museum. My print has a B-24 hand painted on it in the lower corner by the artist and signed by the artist and also signed by the B-24 pilot, Al Isaacs.

Where did you find WWI art!!?

I have a collection toy soliders, old and new (do they count), I also have first addtion stamps and prints of the stamps blown up from U.S. Mail Service and a few Air Force ones. That's all for now, but I want to get copies of the 2 giant WWI paintings in the National Portrait Gallery in London, I think they are called something of World War I. Does anyone know what I mean?

Here's what I have of my stuff-sorry, lousy pics taken with my old camera. The F-86 pic is the last one I did-a chap I know is ex-RAF and he's got me painting all the types he flew-he flew F-86Ls in the Hawaiian Air National Guard-having just completed the test pilots course at Edwards! Currently working on a De Havilland Hornet, which he flew in combat in Malaya during the conflict there in the early 50's.

Mikey...great paintings!

As ever. Of course I've had the pleasure to see those before, but everytime I see them, I think, what a talented old fella you are!!! When I was at Duxford a few weeks back, one of the artists I was speaking with, told me that he had no formal training at all!! he'd just honed his skills with trial and error and raw talent. He's producing some great pics (name is Robin Smith, based in Grimoldby, Lincs) from wwII aviation (you might have popped into his tent even) and his prices are very reasonable. Maybe something you might one day entertain eh Mikey?

I've no talent for painting (excellent work, Mikey!) but I'm not bad with a pencil. Here's my stuff:

The B-25 was the featured piece for the official commemorative lithograph sold at the 61st annual Doolittle Raiders' Reunion. I still have the original which has many Raider signatures on it now, and one of the lithographs with just as many signatures.

The P-51 nose is the CAF's Tuskeegee Airmen 'By Request', which crashed, killing its pilot not more than a week after the drawing was completed. I based it on a photograph that I took in Midland, TX upon its post-restoration public debut. I was going to see the plane at the 2004 Reading, PA WWII Weekend where it was to be the centerpiece of the whole weekend, and had drawn that sketch in anticipation of the event. Fate is a fickle hunter.

Mikey, Wingnut, fantanstic work. I didn't realize we had such artistic talent in the WII forum. Thanks for sharing....now if I can get one of you to do my new FS G2 and my plane.

Thanks Paddy et al for the kind words-Wingnut, if you can draw like that you really ought to get into painting-I use oil, but whatever takes your fancy-I used to use acrylics but you can use gouache (poster paint basically), watercolour, whatever. Give it a go!
Paddy, I spent ages in the Gallery tents at Duxford, there was some terrific stuff this year, especially Robert Taylor's. I like to go in there because not only do you usually see the artists but there are always several veterans there to sign books etc-only disadvantage is you don't get to talk with them unless you've bought something, which is usually expensive! I went in the hope of seeing Nick Trudgian, probably my favourite aviation artist, who works for the same gallery as Robert Taylor. I have probably mentioned this before (one of my few claims to fame), but Nick did the same illustration course as me, and actually taught me for a while-I doubt he'd remember me! I'm also a big fan of Gil Cohen, Charles J.Thompson, Keith Ferris and Roy Cross (I have a signed book of his) who did all the classic Airfix kit boxes.
Nothing wrong with the patches Paddy-they could easily be taken for original WWII ones!

Finally found a picture of my favorite WWII artwork. It is called Silver Wings by James Dietz. I have a print of this that has been remarked by the artist. A remark is where the artist will draw or paint an orginal addition on the print to give it a more personal touch. Enjoy...Jake

I did it!

Thinking about some selfpainted leather squadron patches for some time. Today I nearly finished my first one.

8th AF, 91st BG, 324 BS

Have to dry it for a few days and will cover it with a coating. It will be sewn on my Sefton A-2.
