I wear fedoras with a t-shirt, or better yet, a henley (t-shirt with two or three buttons) and an overshirt with a collar, and cargo shorts. I dont wear flip flops because I dont like that thing between my toes, and I like something around the back of my foot, so when its warm enough, I'll wear 'athletic' sandals. I have been complimented that I look 'together' in this type of outfit.

While I've only worn my felt fedora to work with dressier clothes, don't see a problem with jeans/more casual clothes. Wouldn't wear felt in summer due to heat, either for work or casual. But, have to say when it comes to the shorts, (which I wear all summer), and T-shirts/aloha shirts, etc., if you're goona wear a brimmed hat, make it straw for weather and fashion-sake. Earl

That's my point of view also. Not that you can't do something different, but for my personally, you said it.

I wear my felts with a collared shirt, usually button-down, but I've bought a few more point collars and they seem to go even better. Clean dressy jeans, or khakis or other slacks, all are fine. But the thin-ribboned hats, the younger Resistol Open Road and the green Churchill, feel a little more casual to me, and I'm more likely to dress a little easier with them. The older silver-gray Resistol is pretty battered, and I wear it with work jeans and a denim shirt.

Summer is already sitting on my chest like a nightmare, so I'm looking into getting a real panama soon. That look should be interesting -- khakis, boat shoes, a linen guayabera with the sleeves rolled up, and a natural panama in fedora style.

IMO, you could range from jeans and tee's to slacks and button downs, right up to a casual Summer suit. opinions will vary of course, but what is important is that you are comfortable in what you wear. Make it your own.

I don't have an Andover (yet) but I do wear my Panamas with jeans and tees and up. Seen straws with shorts and Hawaiian Shirts and sandals too (of course I'm in South Florida the last few months, that may be co opting my judgment).

There's no right or wrong. There's no list of what you can and can't wear with your hat, or any other item of clothing. It's all personal choice, personal style. Give it a shot. If you later decide the look didn't work - you've learned something. Nobody's going to arrest you. Nobody's going to execute you for clothing choice. You have the freedom to choose. All that matters, in most cases, is you like what you're wearing and you're happy with the look. Just go for it.

I like the look of the Andover. I had promised myself I wouldn't buy any hats this month but I ordered the tan colored one. $62.99 with shipping on Ebay.

Well, you know, out here in the stix we don't have to keep up the appearances like you do in the BIG CITY!

They do frown on wearing jammies to church or formal city occasions, however.

Frankly, in this small of a town, when you wear a fedora ... usually ... as often as I do, you are already branded as an excentric, at the very least, so if I ever do slip into public wear of fireman jammies, it would not come as that great of a surprise.

Ha! Ain't that the truth!! My wife is from Hoisington and I'm from out south of Dodge City (Bucklin) so I can relate. Whenever I'm back in town and I wear anything but a ball cap or a cowboy hat I'm looked at like I'm an alien.

Deep in thought....
I gave up the jeans & t-shirt look long ago. My hats have been purchased to go with my clothes, but I do occasionally find myself trying to match my clothes to the hat I've chosen to wear that day.

I still wear jeans and T-shirts when appropriate, usually for work around the house or barns,
or very casual occasions. Wear my fedoras about 90% of the time with any clothing, unless
working in very dirty or windy conditions, then wear a baseball type cap. If going out to stores, eat, etc. try to wear khakis or colored jeans as opposed to blue jeans. Just think it looks better for my age.:D

From my stand point I will say that hats, personal style and fashion become linked. As one grows their collection of hats it opens up more and more possibilities. Within the range of fedoras there are ones that are more dressy and some that are more of an outdoors type.

What you wear is a choice of what you believe is appropriate for the activity or occasion. I rarely wear t-shirts anymore, they are not flattering to my physique, but jeans do get worn now and then. I wear hat with my hiking shorts and safari shirt in the summer when it is hot as blazes here. I have a beater fedora for yard work and an Akubra Bushman for outdoors work too.

I live in the south and most everyone wears blue jeans, T-shirts, and tennis shoes. If they wear a hat it is a baseball cap. A few years ago I wanted to change what I wear. After buying a fur felt hat I found that what I wore was influenced buy the hats I chose. Now I rarely wear jeans or tennis shoes. T-shirts I'll wear around the house. I feel that wearing a fedora has improved my fashion and not only am I different for my hats I also am slightly different for not wearing jeans, T-shirts, and tennis shoes all the time. I guess wearing a fedora has made me look better and more unique in more ways than one. My hats dictate my dress more than my dress dictates my hat choice at this time. How about you.

I think that's true, at least for me. Hats are generally a dressy item--dressier than ball caps anyway--and for best effect, you have to wear 'em with certain clothes. So I'm with you. Collared shirts for me, and whatever else it takes to make the hat look good. I don't dress up in dress-down situations, but my dress-down is somewhat different with a fedora, no doubt about it.

Contrary, but not a contratian by nature....

If I may offer a different take this Fedora/fashion;

A fedora can go with almost all attire (costumes). Jeans, T-shirts, shorts, track suit, suit, balzer ....yup a hat can be a complimentary part of the attire.

For me, my retirement occupation, full-time Wormen's Gymnastics Coach, requires me to wear a variety of costumes. I choose a hat (model/bash style/color) based upon the specifics of my costume of the moment. I have traveling in the US and out of the US and my costume is one that yells USA. Traveling in a blue blazer, with flag on lapel, a noce fedora is perfect "topper." Traveling to meets in a track suit, I choose a different hat. Meetings, travels around town, jaunts with friends, errands all need different hats. Wearing a suit/blazer meeting former corp. work mates necessitates yet another hat. As a relative newby, I am enjoying choosing the hat.

Granted I am a an older guy and feel freedom from peer pressure and social pressure to choose my costume as I wish.

Feeling free, Eric -

I've always liked hats and caps. Especially since my hair started thinning, they are protection as well as fashion. I wear panamas, straw hats or caps in the summer and felt driving caps and hats in cooler weather.

And I wear T-shirts and jeans when doing yard work or woodworking . . . plus a hat.
