what length do you think this 1920s style leather jacket should be?

Well, I'm not sure this style is for you at all. You're relatively slender in frame and this jacket is a more square cut for short and stout people. But your taste might vary and then you need 4.5 in the front and 5 in the back, just to cover the belt, and 1.5 - 2 inch in the sleeves to reach the first joint of the thumb. Just my 2ct.

Looks like the little Hartmann style flap pockets I added to my 1930s half belt last year are beginning to get popular. ;) Did Vicki make this jacket?

Confucius say man who wear girly, hipster, low waist need add length to his leather jacket. ;) Mind, I'd want to see one with the added length first, myself - I've seen a few of this sort of old school jacket where changing the proportions significantly totally threw off the look of the whole thing.

I'll have you know some of us suit girly, hipster, low waist jeans.:D But you're right, screwing around with the proportions of a jacket significantly can kill its charm.

...or make it cooler. Sometimes you win, sometimes not. Careful though, if you create a frankenjacket, you won't be able to sell it if you don't like it.

That jacket is hella tight for a 38, at least compared to your Aero HB. Does seem to be AL's practice to size up.

I would also add 3" in the front and back.

I would ask them how much longer a 40 and 42 is, and if they are 2.5" longer then adding 0.5" to that wont throw off the pattern, but if they are only 1" longer.........I would count my money before ordering one.

Schitz, I think that most of us agree on 3" added to the body (front and back), but I still maintain that you should consider requesting a size 42 test jacket before proceeding with an actual order, if at all.

The problem with 2.5 is that it is the absolute minimum, and since they have a 0.5" margin of error that could end up with only 2" longer on the final product. This is what happened to me, I gave a shortest possible spec and it ended up 0.5" shorter then that.

(really nice jeans btw, but loose the sneakers :D)

Don worry I have lots of nice 'proper' shoes that would meet your approval, its just that when I photo jackets I'm not interested in dressing up for you losers lol

My opinion is 2.5 longer front and back. 2" might even be better, but to be safe I'd tack on that extra 0.5. I think 3 is a bit longer than necessary. Of course, I'm yet to see how much broader a 40 (or 42 even) is. With this 38 the side buckles are fully out and I can't even do it up - which strikes me as odd since my chest is 38 bang on. I think this should be tagged a 36

What I do know is I really like this dakota pattern, possibly even more than the Arkansas which is what I was originally intending to go for. If the first one comes out good reckon I'd quite like to have both.

@Tomasso there isn't an ounce of fat on my gut yet this thing leaves no extra space hence i can't agree it's for stout fellas, short asses for sure, but definitely not round portly ones. The jacket in those pics isn't a good fit on me I agree, but I sure would like one in this style that is

If that's typical of your trousers waist height, certainly needs a few inches. I think the arm length looks fine, but I appear to be in the minority here. Depends what you'll be using the jacket for.

Presumably the size 40 will be longer, anyways? This will alter your calculation somewhat, I'd have thought.

This is a stick size 38 I've been sent to try on. As anticipated it is too small and I will need a size 40.
