May I ask you, from the upmost respect because you’re my #1 FL poster as you’re so knowledgeable, nice and have a great collection (other posters have 2 of those traits but not all 3, I have none lol), why the chest pocket?

I have an (admittedly irrational) hatred for chest pockets in center zip jackets and I don’t understand them from an aesthetic and/or practical point of view, so to me, they’re an eye sore.

The difference between you and I is that I don't mind chest pockets.

Really love this jacket - very festive (in a restrained way) and the color palate is ideal for Veterans Day. Too bad they don't make this style/material today. You could add some stars across the shoulder area for a salute to our Flag too!

I don’t believe any benefits outweigh the need of having one and think they look a lot ‘cleaner’ without the pocket, zip and eye catching distraction which is the dangling zip puller. And, if used, no matter how thin the item inserted into the chest pocket it will probably show through in some way.

I have two Highwayman’s, both were acquired as excellent pre-owned examples, one has a chest pocket and the other doesn’t. I definitely prefer the one without and it gets more wear, while the chest pocket on the other is never used.

If a jacket was being specc’d new and a chest pocket was an absolute ‘must have’ then, to my eyes, having no zip fitted would be a big improvement.

Storm rider 2 of 4. This one is a heavier denim than the first. Stone washed. I sold 8 jackets this week and bought 4. (All storm riders). If you ask me these are the best denim jackets ever made.
In typical fashion as soon as the weather is cold enough for leather, I immediately turn back to denim. Never fails.

I’m not even shy about the Texas tux anymore. I embrace it actually. LOL.

I'm the opposite - whether zipped or unzipped, I feel that jackets look more balanced with chest pockets unless they're like the Aero Stockman or Work Coat. If they're centre zipped I definitely prefer a zipped pocket; other buttoned jackets an open pocket. The one 1950s HB I own has no chest pocket and I've often regretted not asking for one.

What little "new" wool I have seen does not compare with these 40s jackets. They came in a large variety of colors and weights. I'm no expert of wool, but they sure are warm.

I'm more comfortable wearing a wool jacket inside than a leather one. I could layer quite easily under this wool.

I've owned several contemporary short wools, they are a nice alternative to the hard to find vintage jackets.

First post in this category for me. Lots of nice jackets being shown and I appreciate them all. I don't have a huge collection of jackets like some of y'all but wanted to share some of mine anyways.
First up is my Scully fringed buckskin jacket from waaaaay back in the day. You don't see these out & about too much these days and maybe that's one of the reasons I like it !
