This jacket is pretty special to me. My Grandpa was a carrier pilot in the Canadian Navy, and wore this jacket as a young flyer. Then my old man wore it tearing around southern England on his motorcycle in the late 60's, and I've done the same on both coasts of this country. Today was just about walking to the Optometrist's office, but I felt pretty cool doing in! View attachment 501276

Both the patina and the family history make it an outstanding jacket! You wear it well!

Crazy weather today. Spend the morning in the new to me Vanson Enfield to keep away torrential rains and a cold wind.

Later it warmed up a lot so switching to the Addict.

I pull it out every time I am being called an “idiot” on TFL for buying it outside of Japan and can’t stop being amazed that it happened again.

Don’t get it. What’s wrong with buying addict outside of Japan? Apart from the fact that this model does not exist in Japan.

Don‘t ask me. I think they make excellent jackets with very nice horsehide. For a competitive price too.
I don’t mind at all if this view is not shared. Multitude of opinions is what makes this forum attractive. What I do mind is the choice of deliberate rudeness in a repeat case.

There are opinions that say Addict are only copies of Lewis leathers for the Japanese market (which are then cheaper there), because the original LL are too expensive in Japan. And it would be wiser in Europe to buy LL instead of Addict. However, I think this comparison only works if Addict would use exactly the same leather as LL. As soon as Addict uses a different leather (better?)things look quite different again.
And if you don't want to have a logo on the chest, you'll go for Addict too ;)
I think everyone should buy what he feels like.

Yes, that would be the argument. And you rightfully mentioned two viable counter arguments.

I still feel the need to repeat myself: it’s totally ok for me to NOT like Addict (or Himel, or Simmons Bilt or…). For whatever reason.
However, it’s absolutely not compatible with my take on a civilised conversation to call somebody an “idiot” BECAUSE he (or she) wears a certain maker or likes a certain style/pattern/fit.

Sorry to rub it in. I just feel that the tone of dispute has suffered lately while the desire to be “right“ seems to have increased.

Addict leathers are copies of Lewis Leathers? I never heard of that. Also, LL in fact does have a store in Japan, and that's more than we can say about their presence in the USA market.

I think we can all agree, if one wants to critique a jacket objectively or subjectively, we can do it without name calling. I mean, what's the point of that?
