My debut in this thread is with a ....fashion jacket. :0). It is a 1990s Dolce & Gabbana's take on a cafe racer in kangaroo hide. I post it here because I just love roo hide and I hope you guys will appreciate it. It is probably the densest mammal hide, and therefore very strong. They used to use it for motorcycle racing suits (maybe still do), and soccer shoes (they don't anymore because of political correctness). This hide is thin (maybe about 1 mm) but has a great hand, very little grain and I just love the patina it developed around pockets and zippers. The jacket has two slash hand warmer pockets with zippers. All zippers are very beefy. I picked up the jacket on the bay couple of years ago and have loved it ever since. The breast pockets are a little busy, but I love them, too... :)

That's lovely mate ! And that is said from the land of the kangaroo.

When I was a (skinnier) dude I had a lovely Sydney made Kangaroo trucker jacket.

Made by Numac leather ( no longer in existence as happens..)

That jacket now lives in Tasmania with my skinnier younger brother

Good onya as they say here !

That's bloody great! Roo is so strong, 1mm will be indestructible.

Thanks Seb. I think that for a light summer/late spring/early fall jacket roo is just the ticket. I actually contacted Thurston to find out if Aero has some roo hide left. Carrie said no more. I then asked if they could make me a board racer if I supply the hide. Carrie thought it would be quite risky, as the hides are small, and what if they are unsuitable? Oh well. There was one roo Aero floating around FL, maybe the owner will post in this thread?

Tried on this Johnson Leather 3.5-4 oz ish very dark brown Horween cowhide jacket (you have to hold it next to a black leather jacket to distinguish it from black) which I received just a few days ago. Picked it up from @jos198 who got it as a gift and never really wore it. It was not made to my specs but I'm fairly happy with how it fits. Wide shoulders, as all JL jackets, but unlike most here, I dig that.

This jacket is yet again another example of the incredibly fine work Alan does. Construction, hide and range of motion are a joy to behold. With Johnsons M-200 currently being in the 900 USD range in Horween leather and with minor modifications, I don't understand why not more people go for this, especially in the US where Aeros go for like 1300 new? Can only recommend checking them out.

Looks really nice, perfect fit. With dark jackets like that a flash helps a lot, even in daylight. The pics a few posts above I took also on my balcony, and without flash no details were visible.

Hey @jacketjunkie:
Even in dark lighting it’s easy to tell that’s some outstanding looking leather. That is one crisp, slick looking jacket and the fit looks perfect in every way.

Ps: heck of a collar and waist!!

Looks like it was made for you. Nicely done.

Looks amazing! I'm looking forward to receiving my Johnson M-200J in tea core Horween horsehide at the end of the month!

I just got a couple samples from Alan recently of dark brown horse hides and both seem like a nice mid-weight. One is a super dark brown Horween veg tan HH, the other a bit lighter (still dark) Horween Vermont veg tan HH.

So hard to tell from swatches what a jacket will end up like but the colors are perfect.
