What Is Your Favorite War Movie?

Too many good movies out there! I guess my personal favorites would be the first half of Full Metal Jacket (I'm a former Marine, and it brings tears of laughter to my eyes), and The Longest Day. Runners up include 12 o'clock High, Bridge on the River Kwai, and Das Boot.

How I Won the War, Richard Lester's anti-war(ish) comedy starring Michael Crawford, Roy Kinnear and naturally John Lennon is one of the more obscure films out there and on my list of films. I haven't seen it in years, but as I recall, they are on an advance recce to set up a cricket pitch in anticipation of Allied advance.

Good call Sam! 12 O'clock High is an excellent movie.

Thanks. Actually used it as a leadership training film in the Corps. Excellent examples of various leadership styles, decisions under stress, etc. I also used some of the old public service films from the WWII period...had to make sure my men were aware of "good time girls."
