update on cockney:

i am not very impressed to be honest! not a lot of staying power, but this is probably due to it being a glossy rather than a matte lipstick. i also just swiped it on straight from the tube which probably didn't help, but i found that it wore off quite quickly and bled into the creases on my lips. not a good look.

i am quite disappointed as i love the colour, it's a very wearable red, so i think i will have a play with some lipcote etc and see if i can increase the staying power.

i shall keep you posted!

I have this color too and while it is very pretty, it doesn't stay on at all since it's not a heavily pigmented lippie (unless I use Lipcote) and it is very sheer.

Cockney is a good daytime red or a red for ladies who aren't comfortable wearing a bright red matte full coverage lippie.

You can line your lips with a lip pencil to get a deeper tone to Cockney, or wear it over another red for a bit of shimmer.

that's the problem Inky, i really really like the colour and i don't want to change it with a liner. i should have known really that it wouldn't stay, but i guess i am so impressed with the Russian Red that i had thought that Cockney would be similar.

i'm hoping against hope that with a bit of lipcote it will stay on better!

I agree with the others JJ, the Russian Red looks fab on you! I bought a tube last year, and it stil sits in my bag as I don't think it looks that well on me...but some days I brave it out :p

@ Jasmine Jolene, That is a gorgeous color. Our skin coloring is similar, except I am blonde and blue eyed. Heading to the MAC counter to check it this week!

I recently picked up a few lipstains that I really like. The Covergirl Outlast Lipstain 425 in color Plum Pout goes perfect by itself or under Mac's Ruby Woo. It has been the first time I have been wearing red out and about! To me, if Ruby Woo was a lpstain this is what it would be like. It is more of a blue-red.

BTW, it is NOT a plum color. I have noticed on this and another Outlast lipstain that the color names and the actual colors differ quite a bit [huh]

thanks for the compliments ladies :D

for those of you that like Benetint (the lipstain stuff) i picked up a cheapy version in superdrug the other week, keep meaning to post on here. it's a branch called tootrue, and you get any 3 items for a fiver! i got eyeliner, cheek/lip stain and mascara. the mascara's a dud, but the other's are great. the stain is exactly like Benetint, except i find it is just that little bit easier to blend, for cheeks especially.

and update on Cockney, i applied, blotted, applied, blotted then lipcoted today, and it has fared MUCH better! still, on although some wear in the centre of my lips. i am very pleased!

Jasmine Jolene, the Russian Red is really flattering on you! Perfect red for you.

I'm a MAC lover - I first tried Russian Red after reading all the good things about it in this thread. Sometimes I really don't think it suits me or my coloring, but I love the color, so I wear it anyway. =P

I alternate between that and MAC's Viva Glam 1. It's an understated brick red that works well for me for the office. I tend to gravitate toward more muted colors in makeup, accessories, and clothing, so this works for days that I'm not quite in the mood for bright red.

I've wanted to try Ruby Woo for awhile, so I'm hoping to get my hands on that next.

Octavia, those both look great on you. I'll have to check out the Viva Glam 1 as I'm a huge fan of brick reds. The Russian Red looks lovely on many of the ladies here, I'll probably try that next.

I too, like many here, am a MAC lover: Ruby Woo, Russian Red, Lady Danger, Chili, Viva Glam - I love that colour. It looks amazing on you Octavia, quite different on me. Must get it out and test it again!

I also quite like the MAC mattene red...can't recall it's name..brain dead. And I'm eager to try the pro lippy Red Pepper. ;0

I received my Beseme Samples today. The sample packet is identical to the one pictured several posts above. The colors are Beseme Red, Cherry, Red Velvet and Red Hot Red. Cherry has blue undertones, Velvet is very close to what I was trying to match to the Adobe lipstick that was discontinued in another brand (deep red not too far on either undertone w/ somewhat of a brownish red mixed with a deep red wine color) Red Velvet is a great description for it, Red Hot red has some slight coral (yellow) undertones it is a color that really pops and Beseme Red is definite pink (blue) undertones.

I really wish I could have sampled the Merlot and Noir. Those are the two colors that really interest me on the sampled photo. I am pretty sure I will purchase the Velvet though it is a lovely color and very close to what I am looking for. I have not tried them on my lips yet to see how well but they do appear to be creamy and have been rubbing the patches I put on my wrist and they are still holding on.

The lip balms are too sweet for my preference and rather a stick over a pot. Pot balms tend to be too soft and melt too easy. I prefer my kissingmoons.com mint julep balm.

I received mine today as well. The lippie samples remind me of a lippie candy pop. They are so cute that I don't want to try them on til I have something "important" to do....it would be a waste for me to try them just around the house...I just want to save them forever :p

I just got Maybelline's Colorsensational #645 Red Revival the other day...kind of a blue-red. My husband pronounced it "darker and more mysterious" than my usual orangey-red or brick reds.
