Heather, where did you find your Besame samples?

I had inquired about their foundation shades & the CS woman offered them to me, along with the sweetheart balms. They were leftover from a show they had done. She said they're going to be coming out with foundation samples soon. I'm very anxiously awaiting that since I'm almost out of MAC studio fix and want to try Besames.

I think I just found the perfect shade of red for me--for a dollar! I was just in Dollar General on my way home, grabbing some kitty litter, when I saw their LA Colors display. They had a bunch of dollar lipsticks, and one was in a pretty promising shade of red, so I figured at that price, I might as well try it. I have fair skin with yellow undertones, and I have the worst luck at choosing reds that are too blue for me. This one is either a true red or very close to it, and it applied surprisingly well. Not a hint of the dreaded fuschia! I want to look at it in the sunlight before I pass a final judgment on it, though.

Also, I can't say how well it will wear yet, because I just swiped it on to check it out before I took my makeup off. (I've been up for almost 40 hours and I am going to bed here shortly.) As a bonus, it smells a little bit like cupcakes.

The color is BLC 248 Cherry Red. If you go to the LA Colors website, it's under the section that says "Carded Cosmetics." The lipsticks listed under "Products" don't have this shade. I think the "Carded Cosmetics" are their discount range, which surprises me, because I didn't know they had anything but a discount range! lol I've only ever seen LA Cosmetics in dollar stores and closeout stores. You learn something new every day.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick, 315 True Red

The reddest true red I have come across next to Mac. Use it along with the Loreal coordinating liner for really bold crayola red lips.

I'm going through none vintage phase where I really only feel for the make-up, and accessories from the era and I'm so happy my dad sent me Cherries In The Snow which is a reddish fuchsia that's different from the corals I've been wearing until now and I've missed it since the mid 1990s. I suspect they've changed the formula a bit. Now I just hope dad will find Fire & Ice for me. Then I won't need any other reds. Not that I'll pass up on a good one.

The Cherry shade in your samples looks awesome. On my monitor it seems similar to a lipstick I have been desperately trying to find a replacement for. It is called Red Adobe by Nina Ultra Pro which was carried at Sally's. They discontinued the line of makeup and I missed out on buying out what they had left. I wish I would have bought several when I had the chance because this is by far my favorite lipstick ever. I found one similar at Sephora but it just is not the same. Going to try and go back with what I have left of it and see if I can find something else close to it or result to spending a small fortune sending off a sample to one of the companies that can match discontinued colors.

Hi RainEDay,

I can attest that the cherry red lipstick by Besame is amazing, it's one of the colours I already owned before I got the samples.

Found this pic of someone testing all Besame lipsticks on their arm! Which may help you match your Nina Ultra Pro colour.

Ohh, thanks for that photo. The Noir Red and Merlot are lovely. I may end up ordering a few of their lipsticks. They have great colors.

Merlot is gorgeous. I hardly ever wear a very dark lippy, but I love that one.

PS email them for a sample kit first! :)

I just bought this one in CVS for $1.
It is clear red, brighter than I am used to.I'll have to practice applying it as
well, I'm more used to sheer color that doesn't show my goofs!
I didn't read the name on it until I got it home, NYC Retro Red 308 b.

I went for Illamasqua Ignite

Hi girls

I've read this thread several times over the last couple of weeks so thought I'd post my latest purchase for anyone who might be interested.

I don't get much chance to visit the specialist counters so after much online research, I took a trip out to Birmingham today purely to get a new lipstick (which my 8 yr old thought hilarious).

I had been wearing Rimmel Signature Red which I felt was a bit stark on me (reasonably similar to Russian Red). I wanted to have a try of Mac's Lady Danger which I thought was fab, but ended up with Illamasqua Ignite since the sales girl was so nice, they were giving a 25% discount on surrendering your old items (so I gave them the Rimmel), and I've seen a couple of people loving their Box shade.

Ignite is similar to Lady Danger in that it hints towards the orangey red, but it's a little bit more subtle despite having a good full coverage, and for me is the ideal day shade. Goes on very nicely - did come off a bit in the middle while I ate lunch but I hadn't prepped my lips, just wiped off the old and slicked on a bit straight from the tube in the shop. I've reapplied this evening and it hasn't come off all over my coffee mug which is a good sign.

[As an aside, I also ended up with the Illamasqua pressed powder which is likely to appear in the Classified section!
Normally I have trouble finding something light enough without looking orangey, this actually seems a shade too pale having got it home and tried it on properly]

retroladybird - if the pressed powder is the Translucent I'd be interested in taking it off your hands as that's my shade :)

My two favorite lipsticks right now are Mac Russian Red for evening and L'Oreal Fire and Ice for daytime.

Borghese used to made a color called Opera Red that I wore everyday. They discontinued it years ago, but it was perfect. I think you can still get the nail lacquer, but it just doesn't feel right with my lipstick.
