Toughest fighter - Hawker Hurricane (Shot down more than 2/3 of the EA during BoB)

Most effective fighter - P 51 Mustang (First long range fighter - Could follow The Big Ones to Berlin and back)

I have always been partial to the A/B-26 Invader. Something about its lines just sings to me. I also think the Italian plane designers had pretty good taste when it came to the look of an aircraft.

My favourite was designed in WW11 as a torpedo bomber / attack plane but was not delivered until after the war was finished, the Skyraider.

In silhouette, with its own lines, the Spitfire; for typical piant-jobs, the P40s with the shark-mouths. It's easy to romanticise the fighter planes, much less so the bombers.

I've always thought that the B-24 was particularly graceful-looking for a bomber, in fact it was actually lengthened a bit from its initial design solely for aesthetic reasons.

One of my favorite Italian aircraft is the Piaggio P.108, Italy's attempt at a four-engine bomber. Note the superficial resemblance to the B-17.
