I have always been partial to the A/B-26 Invader. Something about its lines just sings to me. I also think the Italian plane designers had pretty good taste when it came to the look of an aircraft.

In silhouette, with its own lines, the Spitfire; for typical piant-jobs, the P40s with the shark-mouths. It's easy to romanticise the fighter planes, much less so the bombers.

Unquestionably the Spitfire. As close to aesthetic perfection for a machine as it's probably possible to get.

The Me 262, without a doubt. My father took me to see one actually flying in the 1950s, and it was just achingly beautiful...
