White I hope or maybe red.I wore sneakers with a tuxedo ... fight me
I did that at our wedding. Well, not at the wedding, but as soon as the wedding photos had been taken and throughout the reception. We got married on a hot day in August, and those rented patent leather shoes were the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn.I wore sneakers with a tuxedo ... fight me

Nope. Started at 10:00 a.m., and by 10:25 we wuz hitched; not bad for a Catholic ceremony. Was your wedding after 6 PM?
HaHaHaHaHa!
Now look, you all know how important this kind of stuff is to me. If one doesn't follow the guide lines set forth by the fashion (as we say down South) PO-leece, how could one ever be considered a Dandy?

Oops. Oh well, that was nearly 36 years ago; I'd guess the statute of limitations on that "offense" expired long ago. Then, you should not have worn a tuxedo. Tuxedos are eveningwear.
No one mentioned it at any of the meetings.Does that make the marriage null and void in the eyes of the church?
Would Plus Fours be appropriate with a white-powdered whig ... before Noon? Then, you should not have worn a tuxedo. Tuxedos are eveningwear.

This is where the UK and the US have diverged on 'formal' wear during the last few decades. Here in the UK, formal daywear has all but disappeared outside of weddings (and the last decade has seen a significant rise in the number of people getting married in lounge suits), where it is still common, whereas in the US it seems black tie has been evolving towards being a noe, all-purpose, type of formal dress, for day and evening. Anathema to those who feel the need to hold fast to the older 'rules', thouygh perhaps it will one day come to be seen as but one step in the evolution of black tie. After all, in the twenties black tie norms were still only emergent, and the idea that one might wear a dinner jacket (Tuxedo in American parlance) in public was still considered quite gauche by many. Now most people might wear black tie but once or twice in their lives, and perhaps not even be aware of white tie.
