What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

My experience with newer Stetsons has been hit and miss. Ive picked up a few in multi hat deals that I sure would NOT have bought otherwise. Some like my early 2000 Sovereign Temples are really nice. I have a "Roadster B" that is actually a decent hat as well as one Weekender that I actually like for a casual hat ( we WONT talk about the OTHER Weekender however lol) As long as its a decent fur felt Im not against modern hats... SOME are actually attractive units. WOOL hats on the other hand are usually a full blown MISS! Ive got a few that again came in as part of a multi hat deal, that dont look horrible but just dont wear well... These will be destined as gifts as a BBQ hat to someone who would otherwise be hatless. One of my recent mistakes is the essence of a poster child for cheap modern hats. A "3x Stetson cowboy" hat turned out to be a 3x WOOL. Ill let the picture speak for itself. It had a definate cartoonish quality to it (we all need a little humor in our lives)

I have NOT acquired a good handle on how to steam and reshape a wool hat yet. It just doesnt work the same as a fur felt. Im seriously thinking of dusting off my fiberglass skills and fabricating a 2 piece brim mold... dip the dang things in shellac and clamp together in a press till dry. At least then it might be "donat-able" to someone

Life is too short for junky hats

I knew that hat looked familiar.

A great old Crosby, Gary. Please be gentle as stiff felts don't often stretch very much. Might I suggest putting it on a good band block for a week or so. Old bowlers can sometimes be the right size, just too round or too oval. A good band block in your head size and shape can somtimes help the hat conform to your head shape with some time and TLC.
Thanks, Randy. I think I will start by just removing the bow, and see how that works.

Even though I’ve spent the day indoors, I wanted to participate in Stingymas, so all this was done in my Christys’ Exclusive Kent Fur Felt Trilby. 5.5cm brim in mink colour. Also drinking homemade margaritas.

Etsuko used to be a bartender, and she makes a killer margarita. I told Etsuko about the whole Stingymas thing. She says “Men are just ridiculous!”.

Barbisio "Extra Quality" in medium black felt with pleated bow and homburg shape, without complete curling of the brims which are edged in the same color as the ribbon.

It's a hat that I really like for its shape and how easy it is to wear

Thanks for the likes and appreciation for the "Black hats series"
A huge compliment for you all and the beautiful hats you display everyday
Nothing like a Barbisio shark gill. Barbisio at its finest, Daniele.

Well, it would be better if the dolphins were wearing hats...
They only do that if they're impersonating orcas!
Beautiful furry 3X, Jim.

Only the Second Day of Stingymas and here I am making an exception…. If ever so slight. But I could not resist wearing this Willoughby in a beautiful deep green heather felt for our little holiday get together here at the house tonight. Even if its brim does tiptoe its way past 2 inches to just 2 1/8.
Always good to see a Willoughby in the wild, no matter what colour.

I can tweek the colour of the hat in photoshop :), but, man, that is a fabulous velour! And like Gary I too covet that coat! Good to see you, Jonathan.
He has more beautiful green hats than he likes to admit!
We agreed we wouldn't mention that, didn't we? ;)

Sunday has come around again. I'm in the same old place just with the new hats of the week to show you. I tried my best to throw in some black hats in support of Daniele's efforts.

Great to hear from you, Nathan. Sorry the trip to Bali began on such a harsh note. Hopefully it will be much smoother for you now.
Thanks Mark!

Good to see you Nathan. Sorry to hear about the flu. Hope you are feeling better. A pod of dolphins always seems to be a nice pick me up.
Leave it to a Miamian to know what a pack of dolphins are called. Happy Stingymas Joe!

Keep yourself healthy Nathan!

Dolphins are so fun to see

But hard to photograph LOL -- At work a couple nights ago
Sweet! Thanks Rob!

Cool. I'm quite envious. Not the flu though.

I hope this is okay to post here. This is a video from our time sailing through the Bahamas with dolphins.

Doh - there must be a lot of Internet scamming coming out of Bali. Since I've arrived, every other website wants me to verify I'm not a robot. Gonna have to try to catch that video on my MacBook.

From the initial shot, it reminds me of an experience I had out in Hawaii sailing with spinner dolphins. That was a memorable afternoon....
