What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

OK, having been chided by friends on another forum, I now own a homburg. I didn’t put on a dress shirt and tie for the pic, so it’s entirely inappropriate (I think) for my attire, but here it is.

The label is Fahey-Brockman, which was a family owned chain of clothing stores (Seattle, Portland, Denver, SLC) from approximately 1920 to 1967. No one seems to know who actually made the hats (or the men’s suits) that they sold, but their goods seem to enjoy a pretty good reputation among vintage clothing and hat collectors. The hat is well constructed, and it’s somewhat small, as homburgs go, so it doesn’t look as odd on me as “fuller” homburgs usually do.

It is not a hat I would wear “out and about” in casual clothing; I still maintain that I just can’t pull that look off, as many of you so easily do. But at some point I will don a dress shirt, tie, and suit coat, and shoot a pic in those. I suspect it will not look as goofy as I always think I will in this style of hat, but, again, it’s a small-framed one.

And you're one of those who can make that look good! I just never get the same "inner vibe of approval" when I see MYSELF trying to make that combination work.

On this 55 degree day, I am wearing my Adam Hats Premier Quality fedora. The manufacturing label is a bit tattered but seems to indicate the color is "Bermuda" though it is hardly green.

I respectfully disagree Mark. I think you pull off the casual homburg look quite well. It’s all about getting the right or off right pinch. On the other hand without a pinch they definitely feel like you need to go more upscale… and seem like an event hat.

Carl Ceschka Wien, Back Bow, possibly 1920s and a recent find. It has a very wide brim so it might be considered an Artist Hat / Sombrero. The Velour is more Soleil like and of a heavier weight yet super pliable.

I remember soon after I first joined the lounge (coming on 5 years ago), you posted a similar hat, possibly with an even wider brim. I was completely wowed by it at the time, and have been eagerly awaiting its return. Even though I am a little more seasoned when it comes to hats now, I suspect it will have the same effect . After all, it’s one that’s just stuck in my memory. I’d love to see it again if you know the one I’m talking about.
