The button is attached to an elasticized band that goes around the crown—purely decorative and easily removable.Very nice... why do you call it a faux wind trolley?
Threw in my guess on your post. Love to see more details.. Whatever it is… I’m sure your dad will love it.View attachment 642134
Mystery hat that's too big for me! I bought it for my dad and it arrived today. I did some work to try and identify it - found some very welcome surprises!
Check out my "Forensics" post and have some fun trying to figure it out!

I always admired those Knox logo wind trolley buttons I had seen on folks Knox Twenty hats. Even after I had my own.. I didn’t realize for at least a year it was just a button on an elastic band not attached to the hat in any way. I’m guessing HCA put these on 50s Knox as a display item so they looked great on the shelf. The button is attached to an elasticized band that goes around the crown—purely decorative and easily removable.

Interesting. I've owned a couple of Knox 20s... just checked the one I still have and it does have an elastic cord and logo button but one end of the cord is sewn to the hat. Perhaps yours was modified by a retailer for their customer or by the end user after it became separated from the hat. The elastic cord is not the strongest and certainly many wind cords were snipped off along the way as more of a nuisance than a useful safety device.I always admired those Knox logo wind trolley buttons I had seen on folks Knox Twenty hats. You know I’m not exactly sure. I know one fell off when I turned the hat over while cleaning it up. But not sure when I made the connection on the other.
