Good morning to all of y'all here at TFL ! It is a special day for me as it is my 66th birthday. To celebrate the occasion I went and bought myself a hat. Imagine that.lol. Stetson 100 !! Not a perfect example but nice enough for me.

* b-days aren't that big of a deal anymore...just an old man who's glad to be able to have another day !

Very nice... why do you call it a faux wind trolley?

The button is attached to an elasticized band that goes around the crown—purely decorative and easily removable.
I always admired those Knox logo wind trolley buttons I had seen on folks Knox Twenty hats. Even after I had my own.. I didn’t realize for at least a year it was just a button on an elastic band not attached to the hat in any way. I’m guessing HCA put these on 50s Knox as a display item so they looked great on the shelf.

Interesting. I've owned a couple of Knox 20s... just checked the one I still have and it does have an elastic cord and logo button but one end of the cord is sewn to the hat. Perhaps yours was modified by a retailer for their customer or by the end user after it became separated from the hat. The elastic cord is not the strongest and certainly many wind cords were snipped off along the way as more of a nuisance than a useful safety device.

You know I’m not exactly sure. I know one fell off when I turned the hat over while cleaning it up. But not sure when I made the connection on the other.

Since I often use my wind cords out on the road, I always drop test them when I get a new hat. You can imagine my surprise when I went to test the fake elastic one (I am singing that classic Radiohead song in my head now… “Fake Plastic Twenties…” :D)

I have three Knox Twenties I can think of but only one had a wind trolley (the fake one). Still, they are up there among my favorite and most often worn hats, so Knox was definitely doing something right in my book!

Here is one in a photo from last spring - this one is OPS era.

(I’m going to have to fight the urge to post old shots of my collection. <Sigh> The beach is wonderful but it is felt weather back home!)
