I hope everyone had a great weekend. I wore my 3X OR, my Akubra Angler, and my Hemp OR this weekend.

It is stiff and tightly woven, but very lightweight. According to the label (via Google Translate), it is “100% cotton fabric painted with pyroxylin lacquer.” I have learned that pyroxylin, or nitrocellulose, is also used in gunpowder and film, but when making a lacquer of this type it dries to a thin, clear film.
Just never sit too close to the campfire while wearing it!;)

I wonder if they were lacquering hats?

Tonak Iradon, mid to late 1950s. This is another hat from my May 2016 NOS Czech Find.

170th (1799 - 1969) Anniversary of TONAK (24 Years). Yes no mention of Hückel (146 Years) on the cover. Most of the book is a history of hats but there is a chapter on the history of the JHS factory. There is a good bit of propaganda but that is to be expected. Found this book back in 2015.

2Ms on this Memorial Monday:
First up is the new-to-me Mallory aristocratic quality. I think this is from the late 40s and feels like it might have some wool in it.

Switched over to the Mayser Super for Memorial Day celebrations with the family. We are lucky to not have any family to memorialize, though we’ve a number of war veterans in the last few generations.

The recently reworked Akubra Stockman gets its first real public run today. I did end up trimming brim down to 2 1/2 ". I like it better. Seriously thinking about doing a brim binding. Maybe wider like a Whippet would look better. Might even entertain a bit wider hatband ribbon (I havent sewn the narrow one down fully yet)

Good Tuesday. Home from this mornings work escapades I did a couple yard chores. The temps have warmed up to a breezy 62'f (16'c). An unlined Stetson Playboy was my "yard hat." This Air Light felt is indeed air light on the head.

My first cap day.

I hate to miss any chance to wear a full brim, but I’ve wanted to try this new-to-me Stetson for some time. This afternoon was a dental appointment so it seemed appropriate to give him his first day out.

This was a hugely-discounted eBay find: full silk crown which is why I got it but a cotton/poly blend liner which is why I hesitated to pay new prices for it.

Verdict: a cap is okay, but I literally cringe feeling the sun on my ears and neck. I already miss my full brim!
