Happy New Year to all on the FL, and may 2024 be full of prosperous hat hunting.

Well, talk about petting hats! A mighty fine example, Steve.

Is velour used for hat making usually made from hare, or beaver, or mink? Or something else?
I’m fortunate to own some vintage hats, beaver to rabbit , but this is the only “velour” I own. The others I’ve seen have all been photos on FL.

I think for velour mostly hare was used because of its natural high sheen.

Hückel Weilheim "Extra", possibly mid 1950s and a recent arrival. I think I like it better Brim Up.

I like it no matter what. Excellent find, Steve. I'm seeing less and less of these Hückels around.

Morning walk with a Flechet Century to accompany me into the new year

It kept me company a few years ago on a beautiful New Year's Eve in Rome

Flechet De Luxe - Century - Fabriqué Spécialement pour Chapellerie MEER - Strasbourg France.
It has the same color, felt and quality characteristics as the Flechet worn a few days ago

It's not exactly a stingy but it's my hat for the new year. Size 60 is a magnificent example of French hatmaking from a few years ago

Playing catch up. December 29. Can’t for the life of me recall where we were when we took these pics.

.Staying at a hotel, so the same Hornskov Emissary for me and a black cloche for Etsuko.

After returning home on the 29th, I had to do an unplanned dash back to Osaka on the 30th. This time I chose my Stetson Custom V.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I’m well away from the earthquake area. I do have a couple of friends up there. Both are safe but had to evacuate their homes for the time being.

Yesterday was spent cleaning & cooking. No hats were involved (though I may have watered the garden in an Akubra). Today was Hatsumōde - the first visit to a shrine (or temple) in the new year.

Etsuko wore her favourite Akubra Leisure Time in light sand…

I wore my navy Dobbs Homburg.

Farewell to the year of the rabbit…

…and welcome to the year of the dragon.
