A picture sent to me today... a hat I wore today quite a few years ago. Hat is unknown but maybe my Disney Gadabout? I often pick that one for travel.

Spring runoff still in full force here on a cool and cloudy day. First time this year where fish were aggressively rising and this typically means it is time to put the felt fishing hats away until fall.

It's been an Akubra Banjo Patterson day stacking a bit more than a cord of firewood.

Wearing my 1930s No. 1 Stetson Quality conversion. It started out as a way too small 6 3/4 Western. I blocked it up to a 7 1/4 Lo to fit me. Somewhere along the line somebody poked two holes in the brim, one on each side, probably for a stampede cord. With the size up the holes moved up on the crown and can't be seen with the ribbon covering it. The original block was a #52 and I just happened to have a #52 block in my size. So, the original block type didn't change except for being larger. Unfortunately the brim binding started coming apart when I was reblocking it. Luckily, I found a vintage replacement for it of the same color.


I originally flanged the brim on a #19 brim flange, but didn't care much for the look. I redid it again on a deeper flanged #510, which looks better.

I don’t know @wsmontana….i keep felt wide brims always. You can’t head bust through undergrowth in a straw and then there’s the rain. Lol
My fav is a felt campaign. Can’t beat the bullet crown for push through and rain shed.

I’d love to see a pic of your bushwhacking hat and your fishing setup!

I would prefer to fish in felt year around but summers here are very hot and dry and a well vented straw seems to work best for me. With a wide brim straw I get sun protection and still get the eye shading needed to read water and sight fish. I do some bushwhacking but I avoid the really thick undergrowth areas around here because they tend to hold human damaging critters like moose and griz ;-(.

I am no fisherman other than the trout farm nearby, has a regular visitor.
Tina absolutely refuses to select our fish meal.
Your choice is netted, bludgeoned and gutted, it's so fresh that each end
tends to curl up when cooked.
