Sometimes though, you just have to make allowances, I mean for a felt that's hand made:

For a felt that is from a renowned milliner,

such a hat, when in the setting of a beauty spot like The New Forest:

Such a hat is worth a little heat. And, by way of endorsement, my new hat was complimented by someone out walking their dog.

Excellent, Robert. Being a chestnut colour it should feel right at home in the forest.

Lovely hat, Joe. Unlined, vent-holes, great shape; what's not to like?

I really like that brim curve on this hat.

It's the kind of weather to sit still and sip cold beverages, Robert. It does allow the straw hats some playtime though.

I don't know why, but this kind of pic always make me unreasonably happy.

Seems that this is a widespread superstition, but nobody is exactly sure why. One explanation is that spirits would hide between your locks of hair and could make it to your bed using the hat. Another is that a deceased person would be laid out on the bed fully clothed, with his hat on his stomach. Laying the hat on the bed would therefore be a foretelling of the death of a person. A more prosaic reason would be that head-lice would make to the bed via the hat.
Agghhh! Now I wish I hadn't asked.

They’re calling for rain showers off and on today, so I’m wearing my Tilley Hemp Hat. It actually makes a great rain hat. I’ve got my Hemp Stratoliner in the Jeep for later today when it’s supposed to clear up and be hot.

By the way, on my way out the door this morning I was carrying a lot of stuff including my water cup, iPad, phone, and of course the Stratoliner. I unwittingly closed the door on the brim of the Strat as I turned to leave. It was held so tightly in the door by the brim that it pulled out of my hand and was left hanging in the door as I walked down the back steps. I was horrified, went back and got it out - to discover the hat still looked like new without a bit of evidence the door shut on it. I didn’t even have to adjust the edge - it popped right back into shape. Wow that hemp straw is some tough stuff.

Tilley hemp is a great hat. The hemp is naturally sun rain and mildew resistant. Great all round beater of a hat.

Had to rework the kids swimming pool today. Gravel shifted underneath it. So I Indian pith helmet to start the day.

Took a lunch break inside to recover and watched in episode of Magnum PI so got inspired to wear my New Era ball cap. I know it should be the Tigers but I just got to represent Canada here.

I can see how the style of the On-Fields have changed from the early 80’s. a lot more boxy and square cut and I think Tom Sellecks had a white I underbrim.

Sure, blame the hat!:D

If you find an evil spirit in your bed, you know where it comes from! Mine's mostly benevolent though;)

That's a nice fine weave, Joe. Nice!
