Wonderful! Im pretty sure you don’t have a hat I don’t like…I'm even considering a fez.

Thanks Stefan. @Garrett had said he believes it original.

I think this was the thread you are referring…. “Discussion” :D

That is a deadstock Stetson from the 20's. And one of the most unique if not THE most unique Stetsons we've encountered. Have you seen a brim treatment like that before? From that era? On a Stetson? Look at the width, double frayed ribbon ends and thin style knot compared to other knots from the era. That ribbon style is all but done by that time frame (seen mainly on bowlers or early soft felts from the 1900-1910s).

@steur when I list a hat that has been modified by BSHW the listing will mention it. When original it will say so. Believe it or not there was plenty of experimentation in color combination during that era and the ones preceding it.

Thanks for this clarification, Garrett. The ribbon work looked old, but I too wondered if it was original. We miss your more regular contributions in the Hat Forum.

Thanks for the clarification Garrett. It really does seem a special hat. And I am very happy to have it not only in my collection but in my rotation.

Alan had speculated based on the LOT XXXX being in the 33XX range it could even be in the decade prior. Though he also wondered if the stitching wasn’t added after the factory.. only because we haven’t seen similar examples.

When it comes to hats that may be in the neighborhood of one hundred years old it is quite possible… in fact likely… that some details are lost to history… The details passed from previous owners are sometimes all we have to go on. It is tremendous and I am quite grateful to come across a specimen such as this. Thank you again Garrett.

Looks great Brent. Amazing how the GP proportions look so much smaller in your size.

Yep. What looks like a wide brim in smaller sizes looks like a stingy on me. I definitely like the looks and coverage or a wider brim…2 7/8” is about right for a fedora.
Out of curiosity I pulled some pics of my two to compare. Almost borders on swimming on me. Looks great on you Brent. Congratulations on the new addition in a really cool style.

I much prefer the proportion of yours. I wish hat makers made their hats so they maintained proportions as the hat size increased.

That would have been smart.
