Love the old Strats, Joe.

On the Fourth Day or StingyMas....

Stingy Strat!?!?! I don’t suppose this 40s to early 50s Stetson Stratoliner started its life as a stingy but somewhere along the way it likely got a trim to a nice tight two inches. I might be disappointing... but it really makes for an awesomely proportioned grab and go light weight stingy with an unusual for short brim thin ribbon.

I certainly don’t have so many that I can forget such a super nice Gorusgu; yellow tag, or no. :) Though that’d be a nice problem to have, Alan! @alanfgag

Here’s a dark blue, mint 40s Wormser burg that I probably won’t forget:

The history of this hat is bizarre, it was bought in a batch of junk that claimed to be antiques.

Nothing interesting, just three-hats looked noteworthy. A Panizza, a Barbisio and this Alexander Sport.
Alexander 1.jpg

I only kept the hats, the rest were eliminated. Upon arrival, the hats had many problems: stains, moths and more.
Alexander 6.jpg

They have been partially cleaned and placed in the box for future restorations. They remained there until yesterday, when, looking for a hat for an exchange, I found them. I spent an hour cleaning up this puzzle.

Apparently it looks like an English hat for labels, especially the one that indicates the size, but I have some doubts.
Alexander 7.jpg
However it is a very nice heather felt with a green background color and high pastel colors, the ribbon is green and fray. The brims are flat and sewn on top. A great hat that I think was made by some very little English manufacturer.

I will try to understand, in the meantime I wish you a good day and thanks for the likes of the hat made by Penumbra.

Hello, Daniele. I own a couple of American-made Alexander hats, though I suspect there is no connection between the two hatters.

That is a very nice hat with a great finish.

Dynamite blue homburg!

Great pics of a hat at work. Campdrafts do some of their best work in the snow at my house also.

New Dunn & Co. Derby for some errands, and a brief recording session.

Sharp and an excellent choice to record under.

Daniele; The green heathered hat is a puzzle. Great heathered felt in an unique hue. It is a good example of the felts available to hatters during those years.

This morning I wore a 30's fedora whose label is St. Lawrence Hat Co., Brockville, CA. I lead with the pics of the tip label and embossed leather sweat to identify the company.

DSC04720-M.jpg

This one was made in Brockville Canada. Wolthausen owned the factory from 1895 until 1930. Brock was made by the very same Wolthausen Hat Corporation.

Wolthausen Hat Corp also made Brock hats of which I have showcased a couple on this thread in the past months.

On to the hat: This St. Lawrence fedora is a light gray with a definite cool hue. The crown felt is soft and easy to crease and dent.

The bound edge has a bound edge with a whip stitch that shows on the top. I turned the brim like a snap brim fedora. It did not go easy and I have been considering that the hat may have been intended to be worn with the slight rolled edge up. I will start to wear the hat "turned up."

DSC04722-M.jpg

The felt and ribbon work are of excellent work. The unreeded sweatband leather is modest, durable and comfortable. I have another fedora of this hat company that uses a thicker, treated, dyed and smooth leather.

DSC04721-M.jpg

The proportions are of the stereotypical '30's felted hats. The providence definitely places it in 20-30's manufacturing.

DSC04716-M.jpg

Cheers folks. Thanks for allowing my share my St.Lawerence fedora.

Morning escapades find another opportunity to sport a different Wolthausen St. Lawrence. This felted fedora is a unique hue. I find it to be similar to the Winchester felt sold usually as granite. Granite appears to have some pink, white and brown in the gray dominated hue. This hat does show the brown in sunlight. Our gray skies today cast it grayer than it is.
