What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

This afternoon, by pure chance, I returned to the paths of my childhood.
During an early afternoon walk in the valley where I live, I ventured on what used to be a road, now a path between falling trees, thorns and mud

I was wearing a French town hat from the thirties, certainly not in line with the situation

Luck would have it that I met a childhood friend of mine intent on clearing an uncultivated land owned by the family. It must have been fifty years since I entered that property which is leaning against the hill and has, inside, a tuff quarry, used by my friend's father as a donkey farm.

Have a nice day!

How fortuitous. Sounds like a wonderful day.

Morning dog soiree in a vintage Stetson Eagle, Vita-Felt Process. I greeted the sun rise in this oldster fedora.

I must get some photos, but as my most-worn coat over last Winter and this has been a duffel, I've mostly been wearing a beret, either a traditional basque model from Laulhere (burgundy or black - the black one has a bit of a Monty vibe, though I have very much shied away from military berets. Nice range of colours, but I've never been military, don't want it to look 'wannabe', and don't want to necessarily have anyone assume I'm ex-military) or a cotton one from South Pacific Berets, from the Billy Chyldish range they have. The latter is lovely, very wide and full, in a sort of RAF/Slate/sky blue. Shape and drape wise, it has a real feel of the Highland bonnets that became known as a Tam O'Shanter. I wear a Clash star on it, recently enhanced with an anti-racist symbol, in part to allay the wife's worries that it could look "a bit fascist". I did for a while have a Bowie lightning flash pin on the black one, but it did look.... a bit paramilitary. I've also got a couple more Laulheres I've yet to wear in the office, including a 50s-style smaller one (eight or nine inches instead of the more traditional 10"), and one of the big, 12" Alpin style in navy blue. The latter I'm still building up to, though it's been interesting that I've not had the 'commentary' on my berets I had feared. I did get asked by an older guy once if I was French, but it was just in conversation, not heckling.

Cool crisp morning for a drug run! Keeping with the homburg theme of this week (probably the last time out til Friday) I wore my Echter Borsalino Lobbia in Dattero. Kind of chocolate like tone in the sunshine.

They don't get much better than that, Mike. The sunshine really brings out that great colour.

Gloomy here in New England. Working on breaking in Stetson Strat Premier in Cornhill. My first open crown hat.

Well, you need more of them of course. A good start in a lovely colour.

Nice catch, Brent. I'm thinking it may have been intended like this.

Wearing my 40s Stetson Sovereign. This is the hat on which I redid the ribbon and it was the identical color and size of the original. Huge stroke of luck.

Excellent hat, Adrian, and it has the added satisfaction of a saved hat.

Balm for the soul, Michael. A firm number one!

My wife and I enjoyed our 13th anniversary yesterday at our favorite local beach hotel and a room with quite a view. Soaked in some sunshine and some moon shine. The Lee Smartlee did end up taking a dunk in the Atlantic.. but I think it dried up mostly ok.

Congrats to you and the mrs., Joe. Glad to see the Lee survived its bath.

Finally cooling off here in north Texas. A Stetson Flagship for work tonight.

Can't fault a Flagship. Beautiful hat, Bill.

A dog soirée this morning wearing a Gannon (blue beaver with charcoal trimmings).

Cheers this morning, Eric -
Another lovely blue hat. We must that a theme somehow.

New to me Dobbs Golden Coach as I head out into the gloom. Fuzzy pics of a fuzzy hat.

I like it, Bob. Heather and longhair finish: good stuff!

"Blue" morning escapades completed and home to prepare some lunch and then back to work for the remainder of the day/evening. Escapades this morning found me sport'n a vintage tweed suit, vintage tie, Alden Gunboats and a 40's Stetson Flagship (cadet blue).

Nice memories, Daniele. Splendid looking survivor hat for the occasion.

I've been sporting Homburgs all week, so I guess a Navy Mayser-Milz will work for today's blue theme. Bitter cold had me wearing a black wool overcoat.

The blue theme works for me all day long, Mike. Very nice Mayser Milz.

Borsalino Bismuto. I was lucky that the late autumn light brought out the true colour on this one. View attachment 275495 View attachment 275500 View attachment 275503
Hat, coat and scarf: it works a treat, Steve. Very nice.

Just going to town for some grocery shopping at the supermarkets, lid today is my new Akubra Fed IV.

Great look all the way, Michael. Hat, suit and coat.

Super looking black hat, Perry. Black hats deserve more love here.

Superb, Bob. Not the kind of felt I'd expect from Cavanagh.
