Important items for work today consisted of a Well Dressed Head cap, gloves and masks. Quite the times.

The brown hat works well with the suit. You bring up the standards on this thread with your attire sir.

Good to see hats that work for a living. Congrats on new hat.

All for one....Ahhhh, the Musketeer! I do love seeing this hat. I vote you should wear it more often. Thanks for sharing.
I am wearing it for zoom game night as we speak. And sadly hats off for an unexpected guinea pig burial tonight. RIP Cookie.

This week I will feature P. & C. Habig Wien & Berlin Hats. The hats will be from the 1920s up to the 1950s.

P. & C. Habig Wien "Special Qualität", Production Year 1932 (based on Paper Label). Made for Wilhelm Slama Salzburg. The black Felt is very dense with a very high quality smooth finish. The Brim work and Dressing work are fantastic. The overall condition as you can see from the photos is near mint. It came with a Case and matching P. & C. Habig Wien, Wilhelm Slama Salzburg Hat Holder.

View attachment 238500 Two hat day.
Got this 50s nutria Borsalino homburg three weeks ago. My first nutria fur hat; soft, but rigid.
My second Salvatore Balbi: both exceptional lids. Guess this Italian had good taste and strict quality standards. View attachment 238501 View attachment 238497 View attachment 238498 View attachment 238499
Fantastic hat, Randall. Great Borsalino. Balbi sold quite a few hats and indeed are the ones we've seen of high quality.

I figured after yesterday’s Borsalino high... I needed To soften the comedown with another “top ten” (for me) Kind of hat.

Royal Stetson “Musketeer”
Light blue/grey with duo tone ribbon

Agreed; you can't go "cold turkey" after a high like that. The musketeer is another high; beautiful.

Day 29 of 31 Hat Parade: One style of hat that I collect that has not been featured is the "back bow" fedora. A popular style of ribbon treatment going back many decades into the 19th century, the Back Bow made a comeback in men's hats from 1955-1959. Then, it disappeared again. This makes the Back Bow treatment of the ribbon and bow easy to date. Figuring out the age of a vintage hat is kind of the holy grail of collectors. This Lee hats "SmartLee" has all the earmarks of a late 50s hat. The brim widths were already getting smaller, and the pre-set crease from the factory is seen. I was told by the seller that her father bought this hat on their honeymoon in 1956. Spending that kind of money (probably $12.95) did not set well with his bride. Hence the excellent condition of this hat...he just didn't wear it much to keep the household peace.

Magnificent, Steve. For hats that were so exquisitely finished I find it remarkable how simple the ribbon and bows usually are.

Stefan, Thank you! I just took photos wearing it. :) Mike really wore his.

Fine looking Rockel "Velourette" from you today! Great to see the German series jugging along.

I think Rockel might be the source of some of the sourced hats. The "Neumann" you posted a couple of days ago has the same paper label format.

Feeling a bit better today after a week of being under the weather. I was a bit worried about the flu like symptoms, but it seems I may have picked up a hitchhiker that injected me with a bit of Lyme. Antibiotics seem to be improving the situation, though I'm still maintaining a distant stance. Will have to try to get out on the bike today.

The holy grail of bowler hats! What a great combination. Is the hat original to the box or can you tell?

Beautiful hat Stefan. Is Derby the model name.. or is there something technical that makes this a derby rather than a homburg
Very nice, Stefan. Did they call that a Derby because of the brim curve? Lovely felt.

Michael
Thanks, gents. I think it's called Derby after the horserace of the same name. The German manufacturers were quite into fancy sounding English names, both as brands or as model names.

Randy, Thank you! I believe it's original because the P. & C. Habig Wien, Wilhelm Slama Salzburg Hat Holder was in the Case. That is the shop that sold it and everything fits together. Also it would not have stayed in this condition stored outside of a Case.
