I grew up in West Texas and went to a certain university in Austin (yet not big on country music), so Willie is pretty near and dear to me. The great thing about him, given your post of him and Ray Charles, is that you can think of any music icon of the last 50 years and he’s done at least one duet with them. Chameleon country jazz music genius.
Isn’t that Stevie Ray Vaughan territory? I’m a huge fan of his. I never saw him live - passed up the opportunity once, knowing that he loved New Zealand and would certainly be back. Then he up and died. I was mortified.

It’s both - but Willie predates SRV by a good decade+ and he brought together all the rednecks, stoners, college kids and freaks to make the music/cultural scene what it is.

And it actually came together because a guy named Doug Sahm burned out in San Fran in the early 70s and couldn’t find Big Red soda (no lie) and promised Willie a CBS contract he couldn’t get in Nashville. The Austin music scene is glorious.

Corona Crawl today with a Simonds linen 8 panel cap and a basic black mask from my West Virginia friends. Low 80s, sunny, 8 mph onshore breeze out of the Northeast, with a 5 ft. choppy swell. Pretty nice!

French week is closing. Best go out with a bang.
Berteil beaver in brown. One of the finest hats I own. Thanks to @Daniele Tanto for pointing this one out and the French seller willing to ship it over.

French week over all ready? I enjoyed seeing the hats grouped. Thanks.

Glorious cap. Thanks for sharing a dose of the Hawaiian "pretty nice" weather and scenery.

Yesterday afternoon's escapades were done in a Stetson Bantam. Home and the sprinkles from passing showers were warning me to get inside under cover.

This morning dog soirree in a VS fedora. This thin ribboned sage beaver felt was inspired by the Stetson Stratoliner.

I was wondering if these would make the cut. They deserve a spot, but that's me.
On the subject of these coffin box hats I recently came across another one (didn't buy it) that still had the original instructions with it. Looks like this: View attachment 230666
I think you wouldn't do that every time you decided to wear the hat, which proves to me that these boxes were indeed for transportation (and avoid import taxes).
How very cool. They may not be daily wearers... but in a month of 30 hats they definitely deserved their spot!

Great Bill Monroe, Randall :)

#25 Good morning, FLers! View attachment 230453
A 40s/early 50s Harry Rolnick Resistol. Been looking for this hat for a long time. Worth the wait.
4 5/8 crown as pinched. 2 7/16 hand felted edge brim. (which, is best example I’ve seen) 2 inch ribbon with a smartly executed double bow.
This Kitten Finished fedora is named “Monroe” for a reason I’d like to know, but until I find out I’ll be calling it my “Bill Monroe”. For I love Bluegrass and Bill loved hats. View attachment 230455 View attachment 230456 View attachment 230457

Another gem Michael
Thanks Alan

Always love seeing the San Antonio, Michael!
Thanks Randy. It's a good one to wear.

A beauty, Randall. But then so was Monroe! Maybe that's the reason?

A pleasure to see you enjoying your hats, Eric.

I really like the look of that one, Michael.
Thanks Stefan.

French week day six (I need more good French hats).

I'm losing track of time and the days. Wore my Randall converted Resistol Western the other day. I think it may have been the same day as some fellow loungers were sporting their Resistols.
I really love the dimensions on this one. Gets some looks, too. You did a good job, buddy :)
