30 Days to 30 Hats - Day 23
Lee Water Bloc Silver Label - Panda Felt

DBE6A35C-0821-4403-A5AE-B5118355EE89.jpeg

Lee Water Bloc Silver Label
Chocolate Brown “Panda Felt” fuzzy finish
5 inch crown front 3inch back as bashed - 5 1/2 open
1 5/8 Brown grosgrain ribbon
2 3/4 Brim with 3/8 matching grosgrain binding

A with the Mallory yesterday... This hat is second of two hats I have that belonged to a man who was a Police Chief in Poland during WWII. He was a holocaust survivor and hero who helped 100s escape occupied Poland.

This one I reshaped from what I think was his preferred pork pie style crown to a more traditional fedora style

Nice one Joe. I have a Lee Water Bloc too, it’s a 2 ounce hat. Looks really old. Reedless sweat. I wish it had the brim yours has! Great color too.

edit; I meant
To add that I couldn’t find any info on it. Haven’t seen another anywhere either. Love to know something about it!

Great plaids and hat combo Michael. All you need is a kilt!
Thanks Perry. The jacket is Harris Tweed and the tie a Pendleton. Both served well on a long bike ride today. I did trade a union made herringbone cap for the Dobbs.

Another top ten hat, Michael.

"Men must have more hats": rules to live by!
Thanks Stefan. I'll agree with the top 10 ranking. May be top two or three for felt quality.

Two more good ones. Are we going to have a bonus French week as well?

Thanks,
Michael

#24 Gonna post early again because tomorrow I’ll be busy, busy, busy.
This is a super thick, heavy, dense felted hat by Flechet in the 50s. It was a burg with stained and tattered ribbon binding. Its cheap buy it now price made for a great candidate for remodeling. Unfortunately, the liner was wasted, but oddly, the leather sweat was in tip top condition. Flechet used fine materials and it was put together very well. Better than most. Not sure if it was built in the US, but it probably was considering the US sizing and writing on the single sticker inside. Sold in a store in Tampa: Joe Blare country, sorta.

I’ve been wanting to find a hat that I could sew a 30s styled jaunty bow on and this one was perfect. The light green Petersham grosgrain just works.
I used a tan 7/8 ribbon for binding, but it was too bright so I subdued it just a little with grey Rit die.
Desired to do something different with the shape of this hat, yet keep a 30s vibe , so I went with two high side dents.

It looks like the sweatband is marked “Made in France.” The label also looks older than the US made Flechet hats I’ve seen. I had one of the older hats pass through my hands that was wonderful and now belongs to another Lounge member.

The US made hats are another kettle of fish. They were made by The Bollman Hat Company and ranged from mediocre (at best) to truly awful.
