This is a rare occasion where I regret having to say "you're not the boss of me".

30 Days to 30 Hats - Day 23
Lee Water Bloc Silver Label - Panda Felt

View attachment 230168

Lee Water Bloc Silver Label
Chocolate Brown “Panda Felt” fuzzy finish
5 inch crown front 3inch back as bashed - 5 1/2 open
1 5/8 Brown grosgrain ribbon
2 3/4 Brim with 3/8 matching grosgrain binding

A with the Mallory yesterday... This hat is second of two hats I have that belonged to a man who was a Police Chief in Poland during WWII. He was a holocaust survivor and hero who helped 100s escape occupied Poland.

This one I reshaped from what I think was his preferred pork pie style crown to a more traditional fedora style

Excellent hat by Lee, Joe.

Thanks Perry. The jacket is Harris Tweed and the tie a Pendleton. Both served well on a long bike ride today. I did trade a union made herringbone cap for the Dobbs.

Thanks Stefan. I'll agree with the top 10 ranking. May be top two or three for felt quality.

Two more good ones. Are we going to have a bonus French week as well?

Thanks,
Michael
Thank you, Michael. No second week for the French hats I'm afraid. Just don't have enough of them.
View attachment 230183 #24 Gonna post early again because tomorrow I’ll be busy, busy, busy.
This is a super thick, heavy, dense felted hat by Flechet in the 50s. It was a burg with stained and tattered ribbon binding. Its cheap buy it now price made for a great candidate for remodeling. Unfortunately, the liner was wasted, but oddly, the leather sweat was in tip top condition. Flechet used fine materials and it was put together very well. Better than most. Not sure if it was built in the US, but it probably was considering the US sizing and writing on the single sticker inside. Sold in a store in Tampa: Joe Blare country, sorta. View attachment 230188

I’ve been wanting to find a hat that I could sew a 30s styled jaunty bow on and this one was perfect. The light green Petersham grosgrain just works.
I used a tan 7/8 ribbon for binding, but it was too bright so I subdued it just a little with grey Rit die.
Desired to do something different with the shape of this hat, yet keep a 30s vibe , so I went with two high side dents. View attachment 230189 View attachment 230190 View attachment 230191
Excellent job, Randall. If that what it takes to save a hat.

Stefan, Thank you! I am in the process of posting today's entry.

Really fantastic Mossant "Tourbe"! Great form and the felt looks very light in weight.
Thank you, Steve. Well spotted on the Mossant: it is indeed a lightweight hat with just 91 grams on the scale.

J. Hückel´s Söhne were famous for Velour Soft Felt Hats but their Stiff Felt Hats were also very popular. This week I will feature J. Hückel´s Söhne Stiff Felt Hats.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Eureka" "Plume", 117 grams, early 1900s. The felt is very dense with a
great smooth finish. The form of this Stiff Felt is really great. The black liner and gold embossing is especially striking. Same with the stylized "Eureka" on the sweatband. Also notice the 1/4 French French Point Size so 5 1/4 would equal 57.5 cm. J. Hückel´s Söhne French Point Sizing was in 1/4 intervals for Stiff Felts and Silk Top Hats.

Wow, that is on a different level. Superb, Steve.
Had to go to the bank this morning, figured a Homburg "banker's hat" was appropriate. This is a early 1950s Stetson St. Regis. I find that this is a duplicate in my collection, it too will be on the auction block in the next few days. I will offer it to you folks first. Best to keep these within the family!

Thanks, Randy

I'm fine. Thankfully, things aren't as bad here in Denmark as in other countries. We're able to go out everyday. Most shops are open, and for the most part people are good at social distancing.

Schools have opened up for the younger age groups. There are strict distancing rules etc.

Hope you're well my friend, and that you stay so.

Looking good, cowboy! How are things? You able to out much, Steve?

Blare it’s great to see another Dolphins fan. I grew up in Coral Gables. Bob Greise and his family lived in the same neighborhood as my family. I’ve been a fan for as long as I can remember. Your hat is awesome!

Thank you Steven. The Panama I found in a thrift store for a couple bucks and it had no band... so I put it together with a couple pugs and feathers from eBay Along with a pin a friend had given me.

very cool about Greise! I think we did very well last night... looking forward to tonight!

Good morning. A morning dog soiree and walkabout I was capped in a Well Dressed Head cap. This vintage wool is my favorite of all time.

Home and fixing some eats (grilled chicken, peppers and onions to be added to some egg omlets). I picked a Stetson 3X Fifteen Beaver hat to wear. Inspired by the same hat in a different hue I picked them both up to make a couple of comparison pics. More in the Side By Side thread.

I really enjoy the side profile to see the shape and height of the stiff hat. Looks clean and sharp. That said, the accompanying pics are just cool. The 2 dozen+ women sitting sewing just goes to show they were making a bunch of hats. I imagine your posts take some effort. Thanks from my neighborhood for sharing.

Wow, your bank better appreciate how you have upped the game in appearance. With a mask and gloves you would be the classiest client or robber of the day.

Ah, Hawaii scenery. I am living the warmer weather through your posts. BTW, nice hat for the adventure.

Dressed up a bit for grocery shopping since in these times we can't get dressed up to go out.

Sharp and clean today!

Spring hued shirt today with your special hat.

French hats are growing on me. The side profiles show them to have been made with a different than the straighter sided block we see so often. Fun differences.

Modern Stratoliner for today. Have a blessed and safe day!

Steven

Stratoliners are a great hat for going places.
