I accompanied my wife to an event last night. I don’t love black hats, but this heavy weight Stetson ”Norwalk”

worked with the cold temperature.

Just got back from work, and couldn’t wait to show y’all what I was doing yesterday while playing hooky from work...and life...
This hat business we all play here really is a disease. [emoji15][emoji2957]
So here’s my new old Cavanagh. I sewed in another sweat band, this one a cheapie, but I am proud to show you my first and probably last attempt at a shark gilled bow. Like Fruno said, making the thing isn’t too hard, it’s sewing it on that’s the trick! I think it turned out alright, but y’all can tell me the truth, I can take it.
I recently purchased three different colors of vintage ribbon from eBay and chose this color. The gray I got was too silver and the brown/red didn’t look right either. So I used the sandstone.

Yesterday... the first day of cooler weather for us here in South Florida gave good occasion to wear my Rosollino Milano

This hat was one of... if not the first... hats I bought a couple years ago when I decided I wanted to start wearing felt hats again. As with most of the hats I got around that time I believe I paid somewhere around 5 bucks for this. At this point I knew literally nothing about felt hats and their quality and brands etc. which is probably a good thing because it’s probably not the kinda had I’d go looking for. This old beat up well worn hat is actually one of my favorites. And interestingly I get more comments and compliments on this hat than really any of my others. Usually things along the lines of that is a great hat it suits you so well... which is odd when it comes from a passerby.

The felt has a velvet/velour texture to it. Very soft. It seems to prefer this slouchy center dent pinch it has. It has an overwelt brim attached with a this single line of stitching. It’s hat band is a multi-hued corded band. The stingy brim is about 1 3/4 on the front. Maybe a tad more on the sides and back. It’s crown at the highest point of how it sits is about 5 inches... 3 3/4 at the lowest.

The inside is mostly unremarkable.... other than being fairly worn. The underside of the 7 1/8 size tag is a union label. The liner is glued in. Did not find any manufacturing tags inside. The does appear to be some type of a resizing tape inside the sweat which would explain why this 7 1/8 doesn’t flop around on my head the way my others do now that I’ve lost some weight. It fits about like a 7.

I’ll end with this story about this hat. About a year ago... I made the mistake of leaving this hat on the passenger side dash of the car. I returned to find one of the kids had knocked it to the floor and stomped it so flat it had the pattern of their sneaker sole emblazoned in the felt. After a few choice words (clearly directed toward myself for leaving it there [emoji6] ). And figuring that’s probably the end of this one. I picked it up and was so pleasantly surprised is my fingers quickly creased it back into its slouchy shame and smoothed the shoe prints right out of the felt.

Best,
Joe

Thanks Steve ! It's quite cold here indeed but as Norwegians say : "Det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlige klær" ;)

They say that in Denmark, too. I definitely do not agree however. Dårligt vejr findes [emoji23]

Haha! At least winters over there should be milder and less snowy :( Maybe more windy and rainy though...

It's one of those seemingly unassuming hats that have hidden talents. Beaters often are. I'd definitely grab it to go if it were mine. Looks good on you too, Joe.

Back in style with that VS, Ken. Is it a chamois type felt? Looks real smooth. Great colour, too.

Sent from my HUAWEI VNS-L31 using Tapatalk
Yes, it has a really nice chamois feel to the felt and it holds the crease very well even being so soft. It goes with nearly everything and I keep in near the door as a grab and go hat for many occasions.
