Just got back from work, and couldn’t wait to show y’all what I was doing yesterday while playing hooky from work...and life...
This hat business we all play here really is a disease. [emoji15][emoji2957]
So here’s my new old Cavanagh. I sewed in another sweat band, this one a cheapie, but I am proud to show you my first and probably last attempt at a shark gilled bow. Like Fruno said, making the thing isn’t too hard, it’s sewing it on that’s the trick! I think it turned out alright, but y’all can tell me the truth, I can take it.
I recently purchased three different colors of vintage ribbon from eBay and chose this color. The gray I got was too silver and the brown/red didn’t look right either. So I used the sandstone.

Randall, anyone who can build a guitar, sew in a new sweat in a hat, and then create a shark's gill bow just has to have my [emoji145] off respect. Nice job!

Thanks, Steve. Means a lot coming from you. I’m just glad my dear Mother wasn’t standing nearby while I wrangled with the thing! She would’ve used soap... and a belt!
Thanks for the pm, as well. You have some super banjos, my friend! I’ll be writing you a reply soon.

Breaking in the newly acquired and customized Stetson Revenger today. I cut the brim down to 2-3/4”, pulled off the cheapo plastic fake leather band and did a Naphtha bath, then sanded it down with some 800 grit. It was a pain getting all the hot glue off from the hatband.

Good practice hat since it was just $14 on Goodwill. I borrowed a leather band from a BC Bush Hat for now till I decide on one.

Fabulous outfit again today, Michael. I imagine your house to be some sort of warehouse full of clothes, coats, hats and shoes to pick and choose these outfits from.
Thanks Stefan. I wish I had a warehouse.

Today it was time again for the Dobbs Hanover Square
(I'm happier than I look, no, really)

Such a fine hat. Looks better every time I see it here.

Wow, I think you did a helluva job. Takes some patience, for me.
