What did you play, Bill? I was a bari sax and clarinet man. Got to play with Mel Torme, Lew Tabackin, and Frank Rosolino in high school. Jazz educator conventions in Wichita and Chicago, and the Seattle opera house a couple times.

Your chair is similar to a “birthing chair” my folks brought back from Spain in the late 1970s. We’ve never tried it.

I got this stingy milan the other day at the thrift and am wearing it now and for the bike ride I just got back from. It's missing the tip label, but ebay tells me it's a brand called Empire State and that it is made of hemp.

On the sweatband it's called Deflex and says it's KL-18 Processed, Non Spot, Rain Resistant and Milan Weave.

Mel Tormé is still my favorite male jazz vocalist. Careless Hands is my favorite.

He's an incredible musician. We played several of his arrangements in Wichita; one night in a smoky jazz club, the day before at Century II Theater. That was in 1977.

Thanks Ken. Nice write up. I suspect it is a very nicely felted hat. Resistol did make some very nice felted hats back in the day. Often under-appreciated in my opinion.
