Ah! But the grandeur of Yosemite!

And, Brent, there are many spectacular natural places in Mexico, but I don't know them. The sad fact is that I am afraid to go anywhere rural or deserted here. Way too unsafe.

Many of my friends don't feel the same way, and nothing has happened to them, but still, you read of such things in the paper, or hear about them, and it worries me.

I drive around between islands of safety within Mexico City or Acapulco, and try to do so during daytime. When I travel, I go to the US.

So, qué envidia!

I’d love to see Mexico, and the rural areas are what I’m most interested in. I used to go down the Baja peninsula for spring break and I loved it. Now that I’m a bit older, I’d love the see the precolonial treasures. I’m a bit nervous myself and my wife will not even consider it so I don’t think it’s in my stars.

I found out that they make cowboy hat style hard hats, and when I asked, nobody said no. So now when I'm out in the warehouse I'll be wearing this

It was destined to be a work hat & hang by the back door when I bought it. I reshaped it more to my liking, but I have to redo the brim every so often. It has been wet several times but never soaked thru. Sometimes the brim wants to return to it's original flange when it dries.

Water collects in the front pinch & runs over.

Mother's day is always on May 10th in Mexico. It is a biiigg deal. Far bigger than cinco de mayo, which by the way is a lot less important here than it has grown to be in the US. My son tells me some people who aren't even Mexican use it as an excuse to get drunk on tequila. [emoji2]

Anyway, all restaurants in Mexico City are crowded for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on May 10th, and you better take your wife, mother, and mother-in-law out to one of them, or incur your whole family's wrath and disbelief.

Anyway, here we are, waiting for the rest of Ana's family at the club.

By the way, being late for any social event is also an ingrained Mexican tradition, and Ana's family is very Mexican that way. My Mom was American, so I was taught to be punctual from an early age. After 60 years, I am still astounded at how late people are for social gatherings. I have learned to accept it, but I still dislike it a lot.

Here I am, wearing a mint Premier Stratoliner I had almost forgotten I have.
