Hey Bob, I’ve been looking at a Milan Stratton and I’m curious how you like yours. Does yours have a leather sweat? It seems like a perfect hard-use summer hat.

I like it quite a bit Brent. It is my go-to woods hat in temps over 45-deg. The sweat is certainly leather like (pretty sure it is leather, but I don't have it at hand). I am sweating it up pretty good and may have to deal with some salt stains on the ribbon soon. Here are pics from the day I got it:

A simple old Stetson "Aristocrat" in Standard Quality. Not as old as the 1925 ad - late 1930s on this one. The $8.00 price has been nibbled down to $7.50 by the depression. Note the wind cord button stitched through the bow with removable loop that affixes to a coat button rather than a buttonhole... a subtle twist that appeared with Stetson c.1940 and then disappeared as quickly. One of many Kleinhans sold hats that I've purchased from points far from home.

That liner is so pristine I thought it was a modern Stetson.

that coat is amazing Michael ... love it
the whole look is right in my wheelhouse
fantastic
Thanks Anthony. It's a little outside of my usual bailiwick, but I've gotten a lot of compliments on the Carhartt. And the old Red Wing Logger's. And even a few on the Stetson. Ha ha.

Thanks,
Michael

Thanks, Bob. All I can currently find are the cloth sweatbands, but I’m still going to give it a try.

Brent, I have one with a cloth sweat. I find the sweat comfortable to wear, but the hat is fairly warm for a milan. I wear it often in the woods, as Bob does, while mushrooming and I've sweated up the ribbon pretty well. There is a moisture barrier behind the cloth sweat, but it's not a cure all.

Thank you Michael. I might change out the sweat for leather. I don’t mind wiping the hat with a kerchief. All I could find was a dark brown so maybe the stains wouldn’t be too obvious? I’ll keep looking for other colors as well.

Mine is the trooper or ranger style, but i assume it's the same milan. It's also a sort of mid brown with a golden brown ribbon. The sweating is only evident on the ribbon. In truth, I think I prefer the cloth sweat for hats that get hard wear. I regularly cook out leather sweats. Maybe my head runs hotter and wetter than the usual. Ha ha.
