What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Inspired to participate in Whippet Wednesday I wore one on my morning dog walk.

It struck a "perfect chord" and was "just right for town wear."

Shortly ago I was snowshoeing trails for the dog and I switched to a vtg.Stetson Stratoliner in cadet blue.

Both hats are on blocks and after the snow drys I will brush them so they are ready for more adventures.

Ah, yes. Gary ended up making 5 hats for me. I'll post my favorite one here soon. Do you know how Gary is? Still making hats?

My wife would do an annual visit to his shop with her costume classes. He has not returned messages in recent years. Not sure how he is doing. He had some health concerns several years back.

Cavanagh Homburg in black today. I just don't wear this one too much, but it's nearly pristine, save a smudge on the liner. I should post this in classifieds here, but I'm feeling too lazy this week.

I took one of the last chances to wear one of the hairy hats I had forgotten in the cold.
Accomplice a windy day, sometimes cold, the Borsalino has also made its appearance

Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 6 1/2 or 60 cm. / 1/2 US

The color is "Argento", no mention of the type

The felt of the hat is extraordinary, soft, malleable and with a fantastic touch. The color is in the tradition of Borsalino: ice white with a slight gray tone, the ribbon is blue

The interior is in blue satin with gold lettering

For this winter, except for unforeseen events, hats with long or medium hair will return to sleep in their lodgings.

Conventional wisdom seems to indicate yes on all counts. Tough to tell if he ever did anything to throw a game as player or manager, though. I've never seen anybody accuse him of not trying to win.

Every time I've had the occasion see him or speak to him, he's been gracious and cordial. Well, except when I got that first autograph. I was a snot-nose kid and he and the rest of the Reds were playing a charity basketball game. I had the moxie to walk up behind him when he was sitting on the bench during the game and ask for his autograph. He gave me a dirty look, but he signed.

I wonder if Gus Miller made that hat.

I always admired Rose, but betting on baseball hurt. He had a great influence on my favorite team the Royals. When the Royals got Hal Mcrae form the Reds, in the early 70's, he helped turn that team into one of the best in MLB. George Brett said Hal taught him how to play and Hal said that Rose taught him how to play, so thanks to Pete Rose. Broke my heart when I heard he had bet on baseball.

Beat my Royals. I can still see Willie Wilson swinging at strike three vs Tug McGraw to end the series.
