For National Hat Day, I was going to wear a NW Hats custom out for some errands, but switched to a vintage instead. This Knox Premier from the mid 1950s is a clone of the Stetson Stratoliner. Excellent crown and brim, I thought it would represent our holiday well. Classic style for hat day.

And wearing this rather worn Zero King storm coat of similar vintage.

Have a great day,

The hat is a favorite, that coat is a dream. Very impressive.

Reaching back on my shelf of black hats, I brought out this one, a good choice for a blustery snowy day. Pavia, the home of Vanzina is 80km northeast of Alessandria, the home of Borsalino, who acquired Vanzina at some point in the 1940s. Further to the northeast (perhaps 400km) is Brunico, northern Italian alpine city where this hat was sold. You can see the Tyrolean influence in the styling - tall crown, narrow brim, a substantial and firm felt of very high quality. Brunico, at 2700 feet, is perhaps 10 miles from the Austrian border. Daniele will be a better source for Italian geography and history of course, but I try to take the journey via Google maps.

This is an unusual example of a Vanzina hat manufactured, I believe, before the change of ownership and perhaps prior to WWII... a testament to the remarkable hats that have been discovered and passed along by Spencer on his vintage journeys. In very fine condition, the basting stitch securing the ribbon and splayed bow remains in place. The gray sweatband and fine silk liner are pristine. As Eric said in a previous posting, I should wear this one more often.

Another stellar piece of history Alan.

National Hat Day finds my out this afternoon in a Gannon fedora. The silvermist felt definitely has a blueish hue that shows up in the gray, overcast skies. It adds brightness and comfort to my day.

Enjoy the national holiday, Eric -
Silvermist is one of my favorite felts. It is well represented in a full-on fedora of such proportions. You represent the day well.

Not "hairy hat" today, a little stop, but I remain in theme.
Borsalino marca Colombo in velour. One of the "heavy" Borsalino in my collection
Color is "Bismuto" and the ribbon is "Asfalto". I like very much this grey-greenish velour
The brim is finished with three seams in a beautiful way to close the velvet, prone to fraying

It is one of the rare hat I bought in a thrift italian shop, in the pictures it was green:rolleyes:
There is some trace of moth, but I was lucky, not so many

Thanks for the likes on the Guerra in brown.
Compliments to you all for the supe hats on parade everyday:)
Such a rich looking finish Daniele. That brim treatment is special.

Wearing my new-to-me blue Disney today. Funny how many patients I haven't seen in years want an appointment when I'm sick.

Beautiful color and lines Max. Originally sold in your home country? That is kind of cool!

Simple lines, beautiful liner and a cool band, I think you have the spirit of National Hat Day in spades with this one Bob.

Yes, I was very surprised. El Palacio de Hierro is now a high-end clothing store chain, but in those days it had only one building in downtown Mexico City. I had no idea they used to import fine felt hats in those days.

Didn't know it was 'National Hat Day' since everyday's national hat day for me. Following alan's lead with this one. Wearing my refurbished Borsalino Vanzina, also in Black. This hat sports a tall straight crown with a wide three inch bound edge snap brim...
