Wearing my new to me, straight from @alanfgag, 50s Borsalino "Lontra" (Otter). More pictures will be posted in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread.

What a dream hat Bill. The otter felt is truly unique. Museum piece (National Museum of Alan) for sure.

Baskin. I don't remember the blow to the head, but I see stars.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.
Those stars really set this one off. Love the unusual brand. I wonder if the little brass stars are original to the hat from the store?

New (to me) Stetson Whippet in a tobacco brown color. The hat band opposite side of the bow was folded over, but she steamed out pretty well. Still needs a brushing but it's in really good condition. View attachment 152173 View attachment 152174 View attachment 152176 View attachment 152175
Very impressive! Head shot?

An unlined Portis Dixie was my go to hat for morning chores. A lovely vintage felt that takes a crease with a gentle hand. Clever ribbon treatment gives the hat a fresh look when out and about. It will need steaming on a block as it had been sitting under another hat since last spring. Misplaced, but not forgotten.

Best, Eric -
This is a real piece of 50s fashion Eric. I can only imagine how it stood out on the display room floor with that spiffy ribbon. It definitely shows a level of style that would attract attention. I'd buy one!

An eye catcher to be sure. Especially like the ribbon.

For National Hat Day I decided to wear the custom that got me hooked on Mike Miller's work. The 1942 Rose Bowl fedora. I'll be hanging around the house most of the day while flooring is installed. I'll venture out into the public to represent our national holiday this afternoon.

Another pair of great Italian hats.

I do enjoy the lines of this Champ. That three cord is da bomb as well.
Thanks Red. You are looking good in the SLS. It seems to be holding up to the remodeling work.

Great hat and jacket combo. Say hi to the public for me. I haven't decided if I will venture out today or not.

Thanks all,
Michael

Reaching back on my shelf of black hats, I brought out this one, a good choice for a blustery snowy day. Pavia, the home of Vanzina is 80km northeast of Alessandria, the home of Borsalino, who acquired Vanzina at some point in the 1940s. Further to the northeast (perhaps 400km) is Brunico, northern Italian alpine city where this hat was sold. You can see the Tyrolean influence in the styling - tall crown, narrow brim, a substantial and firm felt of very high quality. Brunico, at 2700 feet, is perhaps 10 miles from the Austrian border. Daniele will be a better source for Italian geography and history of course, but I try to take the journey via Google maps.

This is an unusual example of a Vanzina hat manufactured, I believe, before the change of ownership and perhaps prior to WWII... a testament to the remarkable hats that have been discovered and passed along by Spencer on his vintage journeys. In very fine condition, the basting stitch securing the ribbon and splayed bow remains in place. The gray sweatband and fine silk liner are pristine. As Eric said in a previous posting, I should wear this one more often.

You are a perennial source of envy, Alan. Agghhh!

I used to only feel that sweet and sour emotion while watching people who have a wonderful golf swing.

Not "hairy hat" today, a little stop, but I remain in theme.
1zqa97l.jpg

Borsalino marca Colombo in velour. One of the "heavy" Borsalino in my collection
2l9pbvc.jpg

Color is "Bismuto" and the ribbon is "Asfalto". I like very much this grey-greenish velour
2qwmqt4.jpg

The brim is finished with three seams in a beautiful way to close the velvet, prone to fraying

It is one of the rare hat I bought in a thrift italian shop, in the pictures it was green:rolleyes:
There is some trace of moth, but I was lucky, not so many

Thanks for the likes on the Guerra in brown.
Compliments to you all for the supe hats on parade everyday:)

Everything is right in the geographic italian trip ;)
Vanzina was bought by Borsalino in 1956.
The hat is for sure made in Pavia, a wonderful little town with one of the oldest university in Italy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Pavia
and a magnificient cover bridge on the main Italian river: Po
2nukps6.jpg

Yes the Vanzina in black, one of my favourite color, was made before the war
