Buon giorno Dr. Max in your wizard potions for wearing every hats have you changed the ribbon and trim of the brim into this hat? I am curious because some hats, oversized or undersized, have strange combinations and tend to be very similar in their shape. Try to tell Ignacio to keep the initial shapes even if the resize game is too risky. Very personal opinion. A little advice to get better pictures, there is in your phone a chance to take pictures directly from the screen, so the bow will be on the left and the hat will have its right orientation;)
Yes, Daniele. I posted an explanation on the Post New Hats Here thread, post number 39059.

Good Monday morning. Today, a project hat. This is/was my first D'Aquino, which I referred to as Mark I. Always liked the color combo, but Ms. Luisa made this with too much taper for my tastes. I had tried reshaping, but still didn't wear it much because of it. So last weekend, I deconstructed it, and stretched it over a #52 and let it learn it's new ways for a week. Unfortunately, I lost some crown height to overcome the taper. What was once nearly a 6" crown is now 5 3/8" at the most. I had to remove quite a bit of glue from the D'Aquino liner installation, as well.

Yesterday, I took it off the block and rebuilt it, putting a new Bond sweatband in and reinstalling the original ribbon. I also installed a wind trolley. I wish it had a bit more crown, but I like this much better than before. Hopefully, that means I'll wear it more.

Open crown.

That's a nice one! Definitely a nice one! I don't have enough brim to make mine look look that. Although, I've also been considering doing something similar to this shorter brimmed Western that Gregory Peck wore in the 1948 movie, "Yellow Sky". His hat had a kettle curl in this movie. My crown would be much straigher, though...

Terry, if you could duplicate Peck’s hat you’d really have something. I totally dig that look.

Bummer that you lost that much height; it kinda surprised me. I do agree that the colors play well together. Good looking hat!

I didn't expect that much loss, either. All that taper got stretched across the top of the block when I put it on. In retrospect, I wonder if I could have gotten a little more height out of it by working the felt down a bit more, incrementally, over the course of the week it was on the block. Perhaps I'll re-reblock it at a later date to see if that can be accomplished. Gotta keep busy during those dreary winter months.

Yeah, my brains were still on stand-by mode:rolleyes:
Borsalinos were never cheap hats and London retailers ask a premium for hats in my experience. Reading Daniele's explanation makes me conclude he got it cheap (for a full retail that is).
No worries, my brain is often spinning in neutral... :) All I know for sure is that he sold it to me for a great price. And that it's a wonderful hat.

Nice job on the D'Fruno rebuild!
You might get another 1/4" of crown back with a lot of hand working the felt on the block. And that much skin off your fingers doing it...:)

I’m sure whatever you decide on it will be great.

I just recently came into some Burgundy ribbon that I'm dying to try on a black fedora. I can trim that brim to 2 3/4 and reflange it, then sew some nice 1 1/2 burgundy ribbon around the crown which ought to really make that black Borsa pop...and it doesn't get any better than a Borsalino!

You could always put the burgundy ribbon on your other black Borsalino and keep this one with the brim treatment intact?

I’m just a lot more reluctant these days to trim brims; there are a few that I regret cutting. It’s your hat and I’m sure anything you decide will end up looking great.

I haven't trimmed it yet and no decision I make is ever final. Something else might come to mind to where I keep the brim intact. I'm in no hurry.
