Wasnt planning to do any work today, but a big goodwill box showed up ( I mean BIG... I could have put three Hat boxes in there lol) Inside was a nice black Stetson 5x Gun Club. Hat was in rally nice condition except for a dried sweatband. ( Came out of Waco, Tx, so I suspect someone sweat on it a lot) Had a 3-1/4" brim. Brushed off some dust, trimmed 1/2" off the brim and treated the leather sweat..... I like it better already! (Before and after pic to compare).

May have to brave the rain and run out for an afternoon coffee so it can get some air.

My latest AMAZING (to me, at least) score: a late 1950s Stetson, 7X, Clear Beaver, Boss of the Plains, with the original box.

3.5” brim, and the open crown is 5.5”, with a “skinny” grosgrain ribbon. The Miller Stockman files from 1957 through 1962 confirm that era’s BOP as being of these dimensions.

Some not-altogether-unattractive hand-smudging, showed that mine had once been shaped in a rather gentle cattleman’s crease, with a slight roll to the brim, and I’ve returned it to that shape for now. If this configuration was good enough for some pretty-well-to-do westerner when I was about 5 years old, it should be good enough for me, at least for now!

I have now stopped believing there are certain hats I will never acquire. There are surely many I may never acquire, but I’ve stopped believing their acquisition by me is an impossibility. :D:D:D

First photo is from the OFAS listing, the rest are by me.

there’s something just not quite right about today’s outfit. I just can’t quite put my finger on it. Could it be the necktie.?

Borsalino Bismuto is the hat.

The Borsalino is magnificent. Could I suggest that you
get a new Cordwainer? (Or change your forum name.)

Hopefully my Susquehanna bespoke will survive the weather,
Tina has repaired the ribbon and told me to hold the hat tight
to and from the car. Our storm persists.

This morning's pick is a "new to me" Lock and Company fedora in Brown. The felt has a very nice feel to it and the hat exudes quality in my opinion.
Hope y'all have a good 'un !

Really like the look of that one. Timmy. If Lock got it right they made some fine hats. They didn't always get it right though. Please post it in the British hatmakers thread as well.

Nice classic looking homburg, Don.
