A NYC source for good gear, name dropped in Guys and Dolls and by Cole Porter... I shopped there when I worked at the NY Public Library (it was across the street then). Closed in the 1980s.
I've sold 5 hats over the last few days so had to make a trip to the Post Office. Used that for an excuse for the wife and I to go out to dinner. Stetson Royal DeLuxe from the 40s got the nod today. Love this camel color felt and copper ribbon.

It's not really a stain line. Ignacio says it is where the felt was compressed by being bent at the break for several decades. That stain line at brim breakover line is probably a $350 option feature of a Nick Fouquet hat. Don't tell Ignacio. Nice hat.
I remember that blizzard very well! I was shoveling slush out of the gutter the night before so the water could flow into the sewer. It was unseasonably warm and I remember seeing lightening to the North that evening. The next morning when I woke up there was nothing but white! That picture looks just like what we saw.I wish I had more photos of our 1966 VW with the peace sign on the back window. Got it for free with 80,000 miles, sold it for 800 with 160,000 miles. Here is a shot taken by the Buffalo News after our Blizzard of '77. I had driven to within a couple of blocks of home when it bottomed out on a snow bank. Dug it out all around and underneath the next day, leaving a four foot pillar of snow under each wheel... knocked them down one at a time, started it up and drove it home. What a great car that was.

Very nice, Alan. I can send over some pepper for that salted brim if you like
A '57 Nomad was one of my dream cars. Never had the chance to get one. But I did have a '57 Belair, though. This one had the original 265cid but it was pretty worn and it smoked. The guy I bought it from put a 283 cid in it and switched out the power glide for a Muncie 4spd. It was a weathered out two tone green when I first got it but a friend of mine who had a body shop painted it a black laquer for me. It took me two days to rub out the paint job by hand. You’re giving me flashbacks, Terry. My brother had a ‘56 Nomad, same colors!
I went to Ignacio's today, and found @justdaniel had left a surprise gift for me there.
It's a beautiful Borsalino Trionfo, with amazingly soft felt. Forget stars or Xes. If this felt were softer, it would disintegrate.
Wowwww! Muchísimas gracias, Daniel!!

I didn't even know there were Borsalinos Super Trionfo. It’s the Super Trionfo! I thought it would find a little corner in your collection. I am sure no one else has one
It looks great on you, all the best,
Daniel
I really like this hat. Is that a reddish ribbon I'm seeing?
