Got in a new top favs fedora today!
Mid 50s Sovereign Twenty.
You all know how much I like dove gray fedoras. Well, I equally like silverbelly colored ones! Spent a lot, but for me it ticks all the right boxes, so worth it.
I did a light cleaning and left the dry bash as is. my size, but needed a bit of a dry stretch for original circumference.
Love this hat!

Thanks, Joe!
Glad that you and I like it, because this will be my last buy for a long while. Gonna be takin a break on buying hats and start back selling a few airy now and then. But that’s if I can defeat that gosh darn HAS!
I’m feelin confident, though, as I have way too many “flip hats” that need selling.
Been putting it off because I loathe listing and shipping.

Thanks, Randy! Been wanting Sovereign 20 Mode Edge ever since seeing and holding that sweet one you got!
Well, I have one already, but not with the proportions yours and this new one has—close but not quite. Be one that I’ll be flipping soon. Maybe I’ll wear and post it tomorrow for a last time.

SunBody Tall Gus for a day on the lake:

I ended up with 7 bass and this was one of the smallest, but it’s the first of the season.
Dang, Brent, for more shade you could go ahead and plant the entire palm tree in the live well.
Doesn’t look like you need that space for trophy bass. :)
Good luck on the rest of the year!
When I was bassin I considered myself a lunker hunter. And I was. Huntin, but never catchin!

Thanks, Randall. I’m all about just being out. I don’t seem to make time for it as much as I should. The biggest bass of the day on our boat was about 2 ½ pounds so nothing big. The striper bite in the adjacent river was pretty hot and lots of fish in the 10 pound range were being caught. My passion is the salmonids: trout in the Sierras and salmon and steelhead in the costal rivers and ocean. In July I’m taking my first trip since COVID to British Columbia and hope to be able to share some big fish photos…still it’s more about just being out for me.

The place I was fishing today is not really a lake but a series of gravel ponds. The biggest pond is about 350 acres and the owners have a no wake policy so it’s all very sedate and relaxing. There are deer, wild pigs, geese, ducks, eagles, hawks, beaver, nutria, and all manner of wildlife and it’s only about 200 feet from the Merced River. It’s owned by the family of one of my employees and it’s a great place…even when I get skunked. It’s 15 minutes from my home…man I need to go there more often.

This was the biggest bass of the day. It was caught by a friend of a friend and his party of two were the only other people on the water today. 6 pounds caught on a crank bait: it’s rare, but not unheard of, that we pull bigger fish from these ponds.

Hch. Klipper Offenbach a. M. "Extra Quality" possibly early 1900s. This Wool Stiff Felt has a very interesting Form and Brim work. The original ribbon was damaged so I decided to buy some Mokuba (Japan) Silk ribbon which turned out to be a great match. I contacted Bob at Black Sheep Hat Works (BSHW) and he graciously accepted to install the new ribbon / bow. Unfortunately when the Stiff Felt arrived at BSHW the box had been crushed and the Stiff Felt had major crown dents. Bob did a masterful job of fixing the dents, cleaning up the felt and installing the new ribbon / bow. The bow design matches the original so of the time period. Here is a link if you want to take a look at what happened. I found this Wool Stiff Felt back in 2017.

There's a lot to love!
Weekend western. Another old unbranded western that came from the rancher lot some years back. This one a medium nap light cream felt with 1 1/2 Grosgrain ribbon. It got a fresh steam today. REALLY woke up the felt. Opened up the crown and gave it a fresh new crease.

Very nice, Joe. Always fun to see a hat come back to life under a good dose of steam.

What a hat! Rare ribbon treatment for Stetson, I think. Looks great on you—good one for this time of year.
