That middle pic is wicked cool. When I wear good hats I feel like that photo, but probably look far less at home than you appear. Looks fantastic and has that adventurous vibe.

Greenish Grey to Tan/Brown Grey Felt
6 inch open crown
3 1/2 raw edge brim
1 inch mid ribbon with frayed edge bow

Picked up what I am guessing to be late 60s to 70s Stetson No. 1 Quality western. My first No.1 and I knew it was going to need some shaping… but for the price I had to jump on it. It arrived in a box measuring about 9x13x7 so you can imagine this hat with a 6 inch crown and 3 1/2 inch brim was quite crumpled when I removed it from the box. I gave it a good brushing and decided it was definitely going to need some steam. I got to steaming it last night and the crown shaped up real well but the brim was really still quite wonky. Today I decided to get out the steam iron and flatten the brim… It came out fairly crisp. I’d really like to give this a kettle curl.. but there is not enough stiffener in the brim to hold the shape I don’t think… so that may be a future project. This hat does have a real presence to it.

I think your efforts are great so far and it looks good, and that color has so much depth. IMO, a modest shape to the brim would go a long way in giving that No. 1 a little more character. Looks good.

Thank you Monte. I had a look to it I liked somewhat yesterday where I had raised up the bumpers on the sides and tugged down the front of the brim some… but it was just all too wavy and uneven. So I figured this way I can start with a fresh blank canvas.

Wonderful pre-war Stetson, Alan. It may be a lightweight felt, but it's definitely a heavyweight in terms of look and style. Love it brim up, too.

Thank you Steve. This modest brim works well snapped down without getting swoopy but I always seem to keep the brim upwards at the end of the day. My signature look, I guess. ;^)

As if it is not amazing enough that the hats in Eric’s wonderful collection always look so pristine. It is even more so when you consider it is a working stable. Every one of his hats not only get worn… but get worn for chores!
