Here I am on the first day a felt hat can be worn
View attachment 365518
The summer was long and hot, without interruptions, so I waited to be able to be on the track again.
I was lucky because after my arrival, after a week in the mountains, I found a full-bodied package waiting for me

Part of my plan to use old felts or unfinished new ones for new hats was there waiting for me

Recently produced Tonak lovingly curated by Fleur of Penumbra Hats who made it wearable.

It arrived unlined and with a very banal shape. It has been "combed" and made to be shaped as desired.

With it came other "experiments" that you will soon find in some thread dedicated to the new hats.
Buona giornata
Beautiful blue Daniele

This Royal Coachman by Dobbs… I believe…. was my first hat with a Cavanagh edge and it was for quite some time my goto hat. It is a dark grey felt with blue tones.

Lovely Dobbs. You make a case for these short brimmed hats.

Your posts of this powder blue felted Gannon are always a treat. Lovely hat and ribbon work.

Grand crease on the big brimmed nutria felt. Excellent proportions.

I thought I would join the stingy brim club today! This one is for Charlie, Joe and Rick.

Daniele; A very special blue felt hue! The combed felt offers terrific eye appeal. Well chosen shirt and jacket in order to showcase this special hat. "Experiment" is a success!

Cool hat and name.

Unusual warm and muggy morning have been on escapades in a straw hat. A Stetson Medalist is my head gear this morning. This is a "Genuine Panama." It is as it is labeled by Stetson as such. :)

New customized 50s RDL going out to a hopefully happy and satisfied customer today. Since I don’t have one this color, sure won’t mind if he sends it back!

This one was a complete tear down, clean, re-block, reshape using all original parts except for the campaign bow and ribbon.
Insides aren’t mint, but cleaner than it was and the customer stated he wanted the hat in semi-beater condition so he can wear every day without fear of ruining it. View attachment 365752

Looks like a peach color. Great work, as usual, and I agree on the color…and love the shape too.

From deep in the bowels of 50s-era Cleveland (117th St, to be exact), I join Joe's parade of felted edge hats. Mallory refers to this as a Duplex Edge, and this one was a formidable fifteen simoleans when first purchased.

That is one beautiful Mallory Jim. It gives me similar vibes to my Resistol kitten finish. Which might wait till I go for Cavanagh edge week part Deux to make its appearance

Thanks a lot, Brent!
Though this felt is one that unusually changes color according to light conditions the color has no peach hues, in person. However, I am in Georgia, so it may be the state it’s in till shipped off to South Carolina. Might it take on a palmetto tree green there?

Nice. Are you really a size 7? If so you’re one lucky guy.
Actually I'm a 7-1/8~ 7-1/4 depending upon the brand. This one I *REALLY* wanted, so I basically reblocked it using my head lol. I had saturated it with cold water to shape it, I pulled it down on my head where I wanted it and wore it about 4 hours! Now its definitely a custom fit. The previous cuts in the sweat band probably helped to relieve it's stretching.

It’s a lazy way to loosen the hat and upsize it. Previous owner was probably a size bigger then the hat. Still a nice hat though!
I should have thought of that, this hat was actually smaller tham my normal size. I stretched it using my head when I reshaped it, however it was badly misshapen when I received it. I really wanted this hat to work for me because I like how the felt feels.
