What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Brent, not ranting at all in my view. Honestly.

Hamilton's work is expensive, but the best IMO. He worked on a Super Redhawk for me prior to my first fishing trip to Alaska.

I have been selling a bunch of my firearms over the last few years, too, and you are sure right about hats taking up more room.

Even my Harton 45 will eventually go to a nephew, or even my daughter, after John Taffin's Book of the 45 comes out (in which the revolver is included) and I can gift both the gun and book as a set... as I did with the 32 I gave to my daughter last year after the Gun Digest book on Ruger Revolvers came out showing her little Vaquerito on a 2 page spread.

If I can get guns and hats under 20 each that will be an accomplishment and maybe I can get retired at that point.... and move closer to Ecuador. I've been looking at TX, FL and NC... Lake Lure, NC, looks sweet. I know a guy there.

You and I share an interest in 44 Special, I see, although mine are all stock at this point. I sold my GP100 44 Spl for the S&W 69 in 44 mag; couldn't afford to keep both. But kept the Bisley Flattop in 44 Spl. Mine was "born" on my birthday, coincidentally, and is also included in Max Prasac's book on Ruger revolvers.

If a Dobbs, Knox or Frank Stack 50 hat came along like those @alanfgag posted I would have to jump on it, I'm afraid. Grail hat for me. But after we get our BSHW hats, it will be awhile before I can afford anything more...

I looked hard at a Bowen GP-44 with a five shot cylinder in .480 Ruger to ride in a chest holster in Alaska. I tried the .454 and the 475 in the past and they were just too brutal and uncomfortable to shoot. In the end, I decided it was just too expensive and of too limited in application...I’ve yet make it to Alaska. :)

I gravitated to the .44 Special after I decided I didn’t like recoil. I cast 260 grain WFNPB bullets and they average 950 FPS and they are quite pleasant. I shoot more .38 Spl than anything and my 158 grain SWC at 650 FPS is my absolute favorite load. I don’t need to prove anything or impress anyone.

I’ve been good and only bought three guns in the last ten years.

My problem with hats is that I like them all and can’t seem to pass a deal when I find one in my size. A few days ago I bought three Borsalinos that I really didn’t need but the price was right. I keep saying I’m going to slow down but I don’t actually do it.

I can retire in June 2020 but I think I’ll put in a few more years for a more generous retirement. I can’t wait to get out of California.

Greetings All:
Today....is somewhat of a special day for me here on the Lounge. It was one year ago today that i joined this family and i wish to thank each and every member for all the kind words and for the brotherhood that has developed. I have enjoyed sharing with and in all the wonderful joys we share in our hats. And they are “our” hats! Thank you all.
So...today it’s the hat that started it all for me. My first fedora.

I really like the GP-44 by BCA, too, but finally decided to just get a SRH in 480 Ruger when CDNN had them on a closeout price. It's a great cartridge and isn't as brutal as the 454. I load a 370 rnfp at 900 fps that is pleasant to shoot, and have a 385 grain hp at 1050-1100 fps that is very manageable. Bear defense is a 400 WFN at 1200 fps.

My plinker is a 38 Spl with the 148 HBWC over 2.1 grains W231... NOT for a carbine and make sure there are no hard surfaces behind your target as these gallery loads will literally bounce back at you!

I bought one of the SRH Alaskans in .454 when they first came out. Brutal is the right word. It was also too heavy for a belt holster and it kept pulling my pants down. It wasn’t at all bad with .45 Colt, but then what’s the point? Recently I bought a GP-100 in .44 Special and sold my S&W 696 to a friend who admired it.

If the sun is right I can easily watch my .38 Spl bullets in flight. Punching paper and ringing gongs doesn’t take a lot of power and I found that I flinch more than I used to when shooting the big boomers.

Now that must be a true friend! I was lucky enough to get a new "no-dash" years back on closeout before folks became interested in them, but they have become pretty sought-after since. It replaced a Charter Arms Bulldog Pug .44 Spl. that I had carried for years. What a neat little (relatively) carry gun for those of us who still prefer revolvers!

Guns scare me. A lot.

Just a mechanical device, like a car or any other machine that can just as easily kill you. And I would expect that you were not exposed to them as routine working tools, as most of us in the rural US have been. Now some people who own/have guns concern me too.

I used to be pretty good with an air rifle when I was a kid. So much so that I have wondered if it might have been my only true talent, but in Mexico firearms are heavily regulated. Most people who have them here are scary.
