Hey all!
Wet (yay!) and windy (boo!) on the coast today. The Hochstrasser Waedenswil and this old Army trench should handle both.

Because it's New Hat Day!

Wearing my Hatco Outlet Excellent Stetson in anticipation of unpacking a Biskup thin ribbon (featuring tacky little stars on the ribbon).

I went to put it on and realized the size tag was in the front. Then I noticed the bow was on the right. Then I realized I had received it months ago creased backwards and only now saw it. It’s all about attention to details.

It's these little things, Brent. Great hat though no matter which way you turn it.

Thank you. Running off and hiding in the woods is something that appeals to me more and more.

Brent, I used to think about running off and hiding somewhere, woods, desert, mountains anywhere. Then I retired from an organization with 12,000 employees and went to work for one with only 12. Life improved considerably.

I think you’re on to something...12,000 people is just about what my current organization employs. Hmmm

Posting this because I have rarely worn it because it came to me as a snug 7 1/4. I pulled it down on my 7 3/8 block last night to relax it a bit, and now I can wear it without it giving me a headache.

Greetings All:
Today....is somewhat of a special day for me here on the Lounge. It was one year ago today that i joined this family and i wish to thank each and every member for all the kind words and for the brotherhood that has developed. I have enjoyed sharing with and in all the wonderful joys we share in our hats. And they are “our” hats! Thank you all.
So...today it’s the hat that started it all for me. My first fedora.

Scotty, I tend to be laissez-faire about most things. I enjoy seeing everyone expressing their hat passions from purists to “heretical” (an age old Homo sapiens debate)
I agree with both you and M Hatman there certainly is no absolute way to coordinate. When you have so many hats as we all do;
finding the right hat for what whatever you are wearing at that moment happens all the time. I guess, when I personally acquire a hat, in my mind I try to build the outfit(s) around that hat’s color and character. I have a number hats unworn still waiting for the right match. It’s all in fun and a pleasant diversion from life’s more regular and difficult challenges.

Interesting discussion. I'm with Scotty on this, but that's because I put on my hat last. Coordinating is something I think more about having more hats in my collection to actually coordinate with. And I think hats are a forgiving piece of outerwear anyway; almost impossible to put on a "wrong" hat.

The cold has arrived, with delay and has proved to be lower than normal temperatures.
Today after Venice and its enchanted light I wear a Borsalino arrived from the North
1449o45.jpg

Borsalino Qualità Speciale in the millionth Borsalino grey
11seg75.jpg

When I wear it I have to thank Stefan and the benevolent fate that gave us two totally different sizes
29qm5wm.jpg

The felt of the Qualità Speciale is always slightly denser and firm of the other Borsalino productions.
In this case we find two ribbons contrasting with the color of the felt

I had set aside some light hats for the change of season, but I think I'll have to wait for spring to wear them

Happy Wednesday to all and thank you for your appreciation for the "Superiore" of Monday
Good to see it out and about, Daniele. You wear it well as always.

Yeah, this can be a touchy subject.

I didn't read any comments here that were particularly or unjustly critical. All Max did was to have a hat opened up a little so it would fit him. I didn't think it changed the character of the hat.

Sometimes a hat needs a refurbishment. How much refurbishment? Depends on the hat and the owner. I'll keep a hat as original as possible, but sometimes a sweat is beyond saving and must be replaced. I'll do anything I can to save a ribbon, though.

I have little issue with conversions, especially if the hat is not particularly unique or valuable (read as: old), or is in very poor condition. But seeing a pristine vintage homburg, for example, turned into a fedora makes me wince a little.

But again, it's really all up the owner of the item. Everything else is irrelevant.
I second that; can't see why anyone would want to change a perfectly good homburg. But I'm in no real position to judge, having once turned a fedora into a fez:D
