No wind, light surf, crystal clear water and sky yesterday brought out my Mayser Semi Colada. This Cuenca has held up pretty well, partially because it gets less use as it won't stay on my head if there is the slightest wind. Trade winds due to return this weekend so will go to something heavier.

G.B. Borsalino FU Lazzaro & C.
San Remo - Mogano felt Moka ribbon
4 1/2 crown as shaped 5 1/2 open
2 inch brim with possible felted edge
2 inch grosgrain ribbon
Wind Trolley

After Waiting nearly a month for this G.B. Borsalino FU Lazzaro & C to get packed up I nearly said FU to the whole thing. However... I am glad I did not... it was worth the wait. I knew this would not likely be an original early fu Lazzaro figuring it was a 50s-ish “revival rival”... it appears from the tag it’s more mid 60s to mid 70s. However none of that matters. After cleaning this super dirty hat up... it really shines. The felt is super soft... not quite a velour.. but not a standard finish either... and it really has a nice shape to it. The Mogano felt and Moka ribbon make a nice color combo. The ribbon still has its basting stitches.. I believe that’s what it is anyway. The two inch brim has what appears to be a sort shallow felted edge.... if not there was either previously some brim stitching or something creating a line near the trim. As with other US market Borsalino.. the wind trolley is a sort of elastic material that can make it hard to find a sweet spot for storage... but definitely not a deal breaker there. I think this will make great grab and go kinda hat for me.

Update on the hat I soaked and wore yesterday. It was fine till about 3:00 then started feeling like a vice grip. So I took it off and put my hat block in it. It feels much better today but still a little tight. With the sweat band breaking down it may have to go off for a professional reblocking.

Stay safe everyone

I remember that red mark well! That’s the only hat I ever had that would not shape. I think reconstruction might be the only answer.

Akubra range is a perfect beach hat with a wide brim for the sun, the hemp holds up well to the elements and is heavy enough for 17 MPH winds but feels much lighter than a Sunbody or palm hat.
Beautiful sunny day, with the trade winds back, and pretty choppy seas with 7 foot waves.
I love swimming into the trough of a big wave and deciding whether to ride over it or swim under it. If you call it wrong you get tossed around pretty good. I'm not bored.
